Shin splints- non running exercise

    **Not looking for medical advice!!**

I've been back running to lose weight for a couple of months. Inevitably for someone of my size who hadn't ran for a long time, shin splints are starting to annoy me. I'm going to be sensible and rest from jogging but I want to keep exercising.

What do other committed runners (ie running is is the vast majority of your training/exercise) recommend to keep fit? I am a gym member and have unlimited access to a pool and (warm) sea. The gym has bike machines but cycling outside on the road is not an option unfortunately.

Any recommendations for both continuing weight loss and staving off boredom?

Spinning if your gym does it, It's almost fun if your into that kind of thing, and a great calorie burner!!

    Go Team!

I have been attending physio for my shin splints and yes swimming & biking are the rec'd exercises, and lots of stretching.

If you don't have spinning class in the gym you can do intervals on the bike , e.g 2 mins at level 4, 30 secs at 6, or vary it with speed intervals .
30 mins sessions were what I was told to do.

Id say book in for some swim lane training...that way you'll have others around you to really push you as opposed to doing a few leisurely lengths.
