Just bought a peugeot 307 (2002) and want to do something about the radio. Was thinking of either connecting an ipod or a usb hard drive to it. What would i need for either of these options and what would the likely costs. Ill prob get the bits in the north to save a few pound or on ebay.co.uk.

Generally fitting an iPod/USB interface to a standard factory sound system in a car will end up costing around 250/300 Euro. Some manufacturers charge up to 600 Euro.

The very best option at the moment is to have a Parrot MKi9200 handsfree kit fitted. Should be around 300 installed, and you get a handsfree car kit, but also a digital music interface that can :

    Connect to your iPod
    Connect to any USB Source
Playback files from an SD Card
Playback any audio source through an Aux in lead
Playback music files streamed to it over Bluetooth

Well worth the money, and is a fantastic addition to your car, as well as giving you the benefit of a handsfree.

are there any options that would be cheaper. 300 is more than id be able to spend at the min.

You could just buy a new headunit that has ipod connectivity and bluetooth handsfree calling built in.
I have a jvc headunit at the moment, its got
    - bluetooth handsfree calling
    - bluetooth music streaming
    - full ipod connectivity (charges ipod, choose music through the headunit, etc)
    - and an aux in port

If you buy from the net, you will pick up one for about €200 - €220

Thats the head unit I got for my car, its very good, can control the ipod through it, really easy to use and good price.

You could also get a AUX kit for the car for around €40-50 and fit that, I have done it for a 01 Toyota Corolla and it worked a treat.

this plays mp3 from SD card or USB drive or ipod, and transmits by FM to the radio

definitely don't want an fm transmitter. will any sort of connection do for an aux in or is it car specific.

Do you know with a parrot mki can you use sat nav on iphones, and hear the guidance through the car radio?

Excellent thanks for that! Getting a clio ii in the next few weeks so sussing out how to play music, make calls and use sat nav all on the cheap...and without replacing too much of the oem gear

With your parrot do you havethe the parrot outputting directly to the speakers with it's own amp, or does it send through the aux line into the car radio? I believe you can do either with the parrot but that some oem radios might sound better-provided they support aux in

Mine's a very ususual audio setup in my car, so I have it driving the door speakers with an additional subwoofer, even though the car has its own harman kardon sound system and sub. Ideally, if you can, use the line in function in your head unit.

i'll try to do that - probably through something like this: http://cgi.ebay.ie/Renault-AUX-MP3-IPOD-Interface-Adaptor-CTVRNX001-/250632350253#ht_2270wt_1008

presumably i wouldn't connect the mute function though then?

For it to work properly, your head unit has to have it's own line in function which can take priority over the radio/cd when necessary. If your head unit doesn't have that functionality, then just use the Parrot's own amp instead.

The car has a clarion db166 cd player but it doesn't work with the peugeot audio controls on the steering wheel.is there a cd player that would work with controls and also have aux in?
