    Hey guys,

So I'm planning on buying a new stereo/cd player for his '99 m3 for his birthday. I have no idea what to look for or how to know from looking online what would fit and what would work. Has anybody experience with this or something similar?

    Thanks in advance!

Is he fussy about his car? The reason I ask is that i'd want to choose a stereo for my car myself. Nice thought, though!

Yes very fussy. Hmm, yeah, maybe I should do that instead. Get a voucher or something for somewhere. Stupid question, but is there any system you can get into an m3 that doesn't take up the whole car? He has issues with his current speakers.

From some reading Ive done recently - the bmw head units are supposed to be pretty good so I wouldnt go changing those. A new set of door speakers would probably be a nice upgrade - Focal or something.

yeah believe it or not - was reading about upgrading the sound and the the recommendation was to keep the headunit and upgrade amp sub speakers - this was for E39s btw, assumed the M3 had the same headunits

Im assuming the M3 is a single Din slot (standard size hole in the dash) for the stereo already in the car.

I recon a feature rich stereo with Ipod connection, bluetooth, DVD, C.D. stereo and GPS would be a nice addition to a car like an M3.

    something like:

Pioneer and Panasonic have double din systems with Navtec mapping (same maps as garmin so you could avail of Garmin map updates)

Wow, ok I think that might be too much, but very interesting.

This is his what his current system looks like:

So really I just want something that will actually make sound!

right so it has to be single DIN, if he owns an m3 id say he cares a lot about the quality of things, so I wouldnt go buying outside the top brands, id stick to kenwood, pioneer, jvc, panasonic, alpine, clarion, blaupunkt , If your looking for navigation id say go with the kenwood, kenwood uses garmin navigation and the maps can be updated easily and are excellent to use ,

I dont know what your budget is but this http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/kenwood-kvt526dvd-stereo-motorised-screen-knag620t-garmin-navigation-p-15329.html is a good package, hell need the 30 euro ipod lead but bluetooth for his phone, tv tuner and reversing camera can all be added easily, a nice looking unit that would suit the dash , Ive never heard of the motor failing on one of these units so it should be fairly reliable for a long time

You'll also need a bmw type of face adapter, you can pick these up cheap enough on ebay, they're just the rim of plastic that surrounds the headunit to make in seamless in the car
