Well looks like theres a good possibility that Citywest Convention Centre may become one of Dublins premier rock venues (4000 capacity) with the news that MCD's Denis Desmond has expressed an interest and has asked to be kept informed of when the venue is officially placed on the market..

Sorry cant link directly to the article but its on Page.23...

Has anyone been to this venue before??..and if so whats it like??..know it held a Star Wars convention fairly recently and various other small events..

With the Luas to the venue just about complete, easy access to the M-50 and the N-7 and the demand for a venue of this size in Dublin to bring in International acts i say.. BRING IT ON :P\m/

Yea that would be a great thing since we need that kind of venue

Never been there, but this seems to be a good mid-way venue for acts that can't fill the 02 and are too big for Olympia,Tripod etc.., great that the Luas heads over there too!! Look forward to this!;)

Certainly do, although it's incredible how much the gig venues have expanded in Dublin in the last few years

To be honest, with Landsdowne Road down, the SFX gone, the National Arena not looking likely for events of a musicial nature and the Ambassador stopping the gigs....as well as that place on the Quays, that the Fun Loving Criminals owned, closing....we need places like Academy 2 and 3, this venue and smaller ones like Fibber Magee's and the Viper Room to attract bands

Yea its really long overdue. I hope they give it to MCD instead of just leaving it vacant and would hopefully let bands come over who are to big for the Olympia but not the O2 . Plus it would be handy if you went to a gig you could stay in the hotel if ya want .

This would really fill in the gap for Dublin music venues if used for gigs. The location is quite far out though if it will link with the Luas then that's obviously a huge plus.

We do have the Grand Canal Theatre as a medium-sized (smaller than the O2 but bigger than the Olympia or Tripod) venue but it's completely and permanently seated so it wouldn't suit all music acts. There's supposed to be a Luas extension there so this would be an ideal venue for MCD to acquire.
