As I already has a pay monthly package with Vodafone, it made sense to get just a 1gb monthly addon for a tenner without having to re-sign an 18mth contract, this way I only use it when I want to 'work from home' ;)

Any reason why my upload speed is much greater? (& pretty good) & downlink is poxy?

It's to do with amount of traffic. A 3G sector is very little capacity. One person watching YouTube uses up nearly half the download and almost no upload.
