    Hey Folks,

I was driving my 1996 1l fiat punto down the motorway the other. I was pushing the car a bit hard and all of a sudden the speedometer needle sank down to 0 kph. Now its completely dead.

Is this a big thing to get fix? Would I be able to do it myself if I had a replacement part and whats likey to be the problem? A fuse or something?

    Thanks

    bit of info here

    http://www.fiatforum.com/punto/167196-usual-speedo-problems-mk1-punto.html

since you were pushing it hard maybe it was the sensor that gave up... or could be a connection... or maybe the instument panel

    thanks for the link.

Seeing as it could be one of many problems I might just cough up the cash and bring it to a garage

I'd try a spare cable first, its easy to replace. Its a blue cable thats connected to the back of the gearbox and into the wiring loom at the top of the engine bay. I've had two of these go on me before on mk1 puntos, worth checking first to save you a few quid if it is that.
