hey, i have a 03 passat, when im going around corners the steering seems to make a bit of a knocking noise, sounds a bit like its coming from within the casing around the steering, was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what might be causing it, sumone has suggested it could be bushings gone

Sounds like a c.v joint. Is it a click click noise

naw, i know theres a cv joint clicking alright, but the noise is actually coming out of the sterring itself, its not really clicking.. its making a small knocking noise, like as if sumthing in the steering columb itself is making the noise, im definate its not the cv joint cause ive had them go before :)

It could be lot's of things. The control arms/steering linkage on the Passat is pretty complex.

I would have the track rod ends checked and the bushes on the upper and lower control arms. IME, it's the bushes that go rather than the ball joints themselves.

The anti roll bar drop links are also prone to wear as has been mentioned.

Find a good independent if you can. A main dealer will fleece you for this work.

What milage is on the car?

Jack the car up and give the wheel a good shake to see can you see any movement or wear on any of the bushings and ball joints to identify the cause of the noise.
