Hi just joined the forum, i've just moved from england. I have just bought a dreambox 500s and i made a big mistake i tried to flash over network which failed now my dreambox wont boot up show any pictures.

I bought a rs232 usb cable but it doesnt work. I'm just wondering if anyone in the cork area is willing to flash it for me and how much you are charging please.

    Thanks in advance

Are you sure its a null modem cable you bought (rs232), I think some are the correct crossover patching cables more are just regular 9 pin connectors.

Have you tried connecting it up to dream up, Try a few versions as some in my experience connect instantly others never connect.

what image did you try and load,

Im sure you will get around this problem no need to ask anyone to flash it yet.

Post a bit more info and we will help you out.

Would agree with that - I went through 5 different versions of Dream up before I could find one that did the job.

EDIT: I had success with version 1.2.2.0 which is quite old - hope that helps.

I am using a null rs232 to usb cable and i've found some of them dont work for the dreambox. I dont have a pc with a serial port so this is the only option i have. I've also tried didint versions of dream up and it just hangs on "connection prepared, now switch on dreambox"

must be your usb to serial cable...I am using a usb to serial converter and it works fine on both a 800HD and a 500S. Are you sure the driver is being installed correctly for the converter and that your selecting the correct COM port? Mine will change the COM port everytime I connect it....worth checking.

I think it might be a driver issue with teh USB/null cable.

I had a similar problem with a USB-rs232 cable. It worked fine using XP, until I "upgraded" to Vista. Then, while Vista says it installed fine, it no longer worked as it should, yet still worked fine on my XP laptop.

Luckily I have an old windows xp with the correct connection and I can just use the normal Null modem cable with it and any box and it works fine.

But I heard that a lot of these usb converters can cause hassle.
