Hi there I got a job offer Tuesday. I'm a little over qualified for this job as I lowered my standards in my job search. I'm a little apprehensive about accepting the job offer, I really want something a little better. I'm not long graduated from college and this job really isn't relative to my degree. Has anyone got any advice or comments? Should I just accept and look away in the meanwhile? How would this look to a prospective employer though that I'm just willing to abandon my current employer at the drop of a hat. I'm a little confused so any advice would be great.

Is your current job related to your Degree? You could take the new job but still keep an eye out for something better. Lots of people are having to settle for lower paid jobs that they are over qualified for. My job has nothing to do with what my degree is but it pays the bills :)

Congrats on the job offer though

I think you'd be mad not to take a job at the moment if you've nothing else lined up.

Without knowing what industry you're in - you might be over-qualified, but unless you've gone back to college, you probably have very little real-world working experience which is worth a lot in its own right.

    Take the Job...
Look round as you work to see if anything better is out there...
    This is perfetly acceptable behaviour..

Take the job, wait for a better job offer to come around and until then take all the proceeds from the first one, there's absolutely no point in waiting getting paid nothing while waiting for another, sure, it may even be good to have on your CV as it shows you're versatile.

The two bolded parts shows that you may be seen as a bit "green", and without expereince in the relevent sector, I can't see you getting a better job. If the new job is within your sector, take it, and work there at least 6 months to a year. In most places, 6 months is the minimum amount of time that counts as "experience".

Great thanks for all the advice guys. Ya I have no job at the moment so I think ye'r right when ye say I'd be mad not to take it - I was just a little worried it would deter potential 'better' employers from taking me on .

I just want to make sure I'm making the right decisions, it's really not the kind of job I'd like to be in for very long but I'm anxious for any bit of work to keep me sane. My worry was that say in 2 months I saw a job that I was really interested in and I got to interview stage, I'd be worried that they might think "He's only working in his current job for 2 months and is willing to leave them for this job so whats to say he won't do the same here".
