Is it all changed over to Parking Permits Only now, and where do ya buy the Permits, is it a Company Website or can ya link it on GMIT Website? I can't find anything about it on GMIT's one.

Does any-know what the procedure is with regard to parking and those who haven't got the Discs yet is for first few days? Is it possible to park anywhere till get settled or will ya still get clamped or how can this be avoided. I think in the past they allowed some exception at the start if you photocopied your Student Card or something ......

From what I see, in the minimal couple of Paragraphs on G.M.I.T. Website that they have dedicated to the serious issue of Parking, they haven't covered if ya just need to pop into the College for no more than 10 minutes. Hhmm would that be classed as a Visitor? But then you have to have given in your details beforehand to Reception if you're visiting. But then if you have other things to do during the day how are you going to know what time you will be popping into the College, for all of the 10 minutes that you will be there. Do you still have to pay for 1-2 Hours parking for 10minutes?!

Another thought has just occurred to me, reserved Visitor spaces that have been pre-booked or whatever; - 8 outta 10 times I would say they will be running late, so what does the person on the other end of the phone do then?! Can they buzz in another visitor that's waiting lol or how does that fare out

Plus there are Part-time Students too that will need to park AND pay lol, with very little chance of finding a parking spot over some-one that is there for the whole day.

Another thing if you leave the College for lunch, you risk losing your spot and not finding any on your return.

I.m.o. this seems like just another lacksadaisical well familiar shoddy approach that we're forced to get used to. Papering over the cracks so to speak, putting up with and getting by.

Will dozens of students be forced to pay for parking charges for the hours they spend in the college if there's no allocated spaces left?? What a rip-off!

****The problem is there never was enough spaces there to begin with!!**** So how in the name of God does cordoning off areas thus reducing spaces help anyone for crying out loud ??!! And to add insult to injury adding Parking charges to a situation already deteriorating as a direct result of their "input" ie: to further reduce available spaces and make us pay!! This makes no sense whatsoever!!

****The problem is there never was enough spaces there to begin with!!****

I spent between seven and eight years as a student in GMIT, in that time I saw the amount of cars owned by students increase dramatically.
I don't think it's a problem with GMIT not having enough car parking spaces but with too many students driving to college when they could use public transport or if you live close enough they could walk or cycle to college.

The college should try and put incentives for students who carpool e.g. reserved parking spaces, canteen vouchers etc etc. If this is done, you will likely see a dramatic decrease in cars.
