Wiring for surround sound

Current building a house and want to put in some wiring for surround sound before plastering. TV and other equipment is to be located in one corner of a rectangular room with the wall plate outlet for the right rear speaker 5m approx away and the left hand rear speaker 10m approx away. Is this difference in run lengths going to cause any sound problems? If so , any suggestions on how I can overcome those?
What size cable should I use?
Is there any good websites giving details of basic requirements and setups.

    Thanks

Difference in lengths is not going to be an issue for you unless you want to get into an audiophile discussion.

Use standard 79 strand speaker cable - you can usually get it in bulk rolls.

As for websites, try AVForums as there is a lot more traffic there for information.

Different lengths make no audible difference. I wouldn't be comfortable with huge differences (that's the audiophile in me!) but in the real world it's not a issue.

That's what I was alluding to all right. I'm willing to bet the op isn't going to be running dual monoblock krells to electrostatics.

I don't run even lengths to my fronts never mind rears. I think it would have to be a substantial difference in length and be close to the limits of either speaker or amplifier to begin to notice.

    Thanks guys for your replys.

Is there any reason why I cant piggyback speaker cable into the wall chases for the electrical cables or would that be bad practice?

    Thanks

Yep. As it happens I run uneven lenghts from an Airtight amp to large electrostatics and so feel qualified to comment.:D Sod all difference.

No not really. Again for an audiophile there might be issues of RF interference but for real people in the real world you'd be mad not to use that route.

I feel inadequate now with uneven lengths from rotel class d amps into system audio.
    :(

Ah hah! But do you run solid core cabling? Damn, you probably do...
    :)

You don't want to know... and lest the great unwashed point and laugh I don't want to tell.
