28 tyres on a Kona PHD

    Hey,

I've own a 07 model Kona PHD for a couple of years now and am pretty much sick of getting punctures on crappy Dublin roads.

I currently ride a 23 Conti Sport tyre and was thinking of changing to a 28 Specialized Armadillo. I know the 28 should be fine on my rims (Mavik Aksiums) I'm just not sure would there would be enough frame clearance.

Would greatly appreciate anyone who could help!

Can't you just measure the frame clearance?

I can, of course, but i wanted to check if anyone had any experience running 28s on a PHD

just go to 23 gatorskins and keep them at the right pressure.

My wife's Kona PhD is from 2007, I think, and from a quick glance at it this morning I *think* that it'll take 28mm tyres. There is certainly plenty of clearance at the back and the front looks like it'll handle it too although I'm not certain that you won't have problems opening the front brakes wide enough for the tyre to clear the brake pads. Depends on which brake pads/blocks you use too, of course. Measuring the distance between the pads on your bike though will confirm it one way or the other
