windows 7 crashing

    i have a dell inspiron with window 7 and over the last two days it keeps crashing. any programs i have open doesnt matter what it is will crash and then ever thing freezes, itll be fine for about half a hour and then it just goes. I have to shut it down with the power button because nothing is responding. cant even run the task manager. any ideas whats wrong before i have someone look at it

    stinks of a virus , run an on line scan from trend or something.

    windows 7 is usually quite flawless (for me anyway)

    it has four gigs of ram and a duel core precesser.its only about 6 months old. ive just noticed that windows needs to update on shut down but its not doing it. any recomendation for a online scan?

    should sort you out.

    windows 7 is really robust and a different kettle of fish compared to vista (re crashing)

    I gotta agree. Certainly seems like a virus / malware issue.

    it look like its needs to be wiped theres a serious virus on there its even interfering with the anti virus software. when i got the laptop there were no disks or anything, everthing was preloaded. how would i go about wiping it.

    not sure about dell but most laptops and desktops have automated factory reset where it goes back to the way it was when you bought it...means all data will be deleted so try to back up...try pressing F8 or other buttons around that when your in boot/bios screen
