I want to become an estate agent, I heard Douglas Newman Good do a five or six month apprenticeship, I looked at their website and hoped to apply online but there was just a 'recruitment' page and no area to apply, should I just call up and enquire? Are they any good? Should I try somewhere better?

    Please help!!

I've never really heard of anyone doing an 'apprenticeship' to become an estate agent to be honest, not saying people like DNG dont do them but even if they do, you'd be very very lucky to land any sort of job with an agency at the moment. There are hundreads of fully qualified poeple with bags of experience who cant get jobs.

Not trying to sound negitive tho! :) (thought maybe a smily face might lift the tone)

If your seriously intrested, you might consider doing FETAC course in Ballsbridge College (1yr) in Estate Agency and Auctioneering, its kinda aimed at school leavers so if you already have qualifications you might find it a bit slow.

The best thing after that would be to look for a job! things might have picked up in a yrs time. Even if you look at jobs.ie or any of these, theres like 8 jobs under 'property', when 2 years ago there would have been pages.

Once you get a job you should do the iavi or the ipav course part time to become a member of one of the associations. (www.ipav.ie) (www.iavi.ie)
I'm not suure what the critiriea is in doing these courses when your not working in an E.A. but I do remember people in my class who were working in unrelated fields.

There is one Estate Agency who always advertise for staff and don't really ask for anyone to be qualified (hence they've a bad rep). And i did recently see an advert for them, pm me if you want the details.
