For some reason I never played this game and I just downloaded the demo today (bored and looking for demo's!). Was actually class! I saw the trailer for the new one coming out and that looks amazing so might pick this up cuz I saw it cheap a load o places.

So, can any boardsies recommend this? Do you get many powers/upgrades? Is it long, does it get repetitive?

Demo was confusing in parts, 1 sec i'm good, the next i'm bad. Is the demo just given ya a taste of different parts of the game?

    Thanks

I got it cheap a few months ago and It get's very repetitive after the first hour. I don't know how it got such good reviews. It's very easy to tell if you are doing good or bad. The side missions of which there are about 6 types keep coming up over and over.

Not much fun as an open world super hero game like Crackdown 1 was on the 360 a few years back.

The second one looks good alright but the first one is a chore to play, I want to get through it to see how it got such good review scores and I'm about 9 hours in.

Infamous - if you like sandbox style games akin to GTA then I cant recommend this game enough. I completed it as both the evil and the good character and it was totally worthwhile. the game makes you feel like a God but just when you get too cocky with your powers and skills you get knocked on your ass to keep your feet on the ground.

Awesome power upgrades and really cool enemies. It can get a little bit repetitive but these games usually do to a certain extent.

It can probably be gotten for a very reasonable price now so i would snap up a copy if i was you! Im just sorry i traded mine in after completing it the 2nd time :(

Thanks lads, wow 2 very different views. I remember I used to buy a game and I wouldn't play another one till I cleared it but games these days are either 2 repetitive or just too boring to want to complete. Is this like Prototype? I played that on PC for 5 minutes before my graphics card tried to crawl out the back! Looks like a laugh as well.

I want to trade in Red Dead so could pick up 2 cheap old games or just wait for Mafia 2. dunno what to do.

Yeah, it's similar to Prototype but you have less powers. Infamous I would rate higher than Prototype though, it's a more polished and finished product in how it plays and feels.

Infamous is a much more balanced game than prototype. Proto just goes mental with the numbers of enemies and it becomes way too frantic to enjoy (IMO :) ).
Infamous just felt quite polished to me - It is a little bit repetitive with the side missions as mentioned above but i found the gameplay so engaging that I didnt really care!

Well worth €20 or less i say!

I bought my ps3 for this game. I love it. Didnt let me down at all. Especially after not being too impress with Prototype on the xbox

Extremely repetitive and it can look very clunky at times, just about worth 20euro if youre really short on games.

i'm afraid if it is repetitive, i'l just get distracted with something else. Also thinking of getting Burnout Paradise on the cheap. Crap might have to give it a miss then. Would love to play Spiderman 2 again, loved swinging around the city. Spiderman: web of shadows any good?

Thanks for all the advice lads!

Not to side track the thread or anything but if you havent played Borderlands its worth a punt and can be gotten cheap. Fallout 3 is another one (one of my fav games of all time :) ) but like everyone else im sure you've played it :)

Ah Fallout 3 my old friend, many a playthrough with this, Fallout Vegas should be class!!...hopefully.

I was gonna get Borderlands before, can't remember why I decided against it, sounded like a laugh. Ah all these cheap games, what to get!

Get Borderlands, you get used of the cel-shaded graphics after a while but its definitely worth it. Very difficult as well, which I like!

Infamous is my favourite game other than fallout 3 of this generation, its phenomenally good fun. Just running around the city, sliding on rails and such is a great laugh.

The missions aren't all that varied, but I never found it got too repetetive and they keep introducing new powers, so it stays fresh. Its just a fun game, and I haven't been able to say that about many games lately, all too serious and bland.

I don't think its in any way clunky, the controls are great, and climbing buildings while you zap death from above lightning like Zeus at enemies is immense fun. It's what the spiderman games should have been like. Worth every penny.

Borderlands is incredibly repetetive on the other hand, right from the get go. It's good with a few others online if you're all talking, but as a single player experience its not great. There's really little other than go here, shoot this, over and over.

Infamous was one of my favourite games of last year and I recently played through it again (4th time) and still absolutely loved it, in fact it was better than I remembered even. I never found it repetitive as there was a nice variety in side mission types even if ther were repeated throughout the game, you could approach them in any order so if I was getting bored of one mission type I avoided them for a while. I just loved everything about inFamous. A buddy picked it up there in Game for 13 quid used a month or so back. An absolute steal at that price.

13 quid? Ah i think i'll just have to pick it up and give it a go for this. By looks of the trailer of the new one, it def looks like something I wanna pick up so no harm to get an understanding of the story anyway and i'v paid more money for comics!

Shouldnt have said clunky, I meant the graphics are fairly bad which they undeniably are.

You could look at borderlands that way but the customization keeps it interesting, plus infamous is one of the most monochromatic game I have ever played so in terms of bland....

Just out of interest have you completed Infamous? Did you not think the game just handled really well, the power upgrades had a really satisfying feel when using them (especially the more advanced ones).

I agree with you on Borderlands btw - I've completed it 4 times now & am considering going for number 5 :)

Was thinking about getting this game myself but I heard there was difficult spikes & thats a problem for me.I'll keep my eye out for the 2nd when it drops in price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭The_D_Man

Yup, passed it with both good and evil, addmitedly, the last move you get is fairly class but I just couldnt really get into it like I did with other games.

Yeah I know what you mean, its not too colourful, I just meant that its kind of light hearted a lot of the time, and feels like playing a comic book, rather than something like GTA which lacked a certain charm in the characters and the setting. Graphics be damned though, climbing around buildings was a joy for me, it felt so fluid to move around the city. It's not flawless, but it ticked all the right boxes for my tastes.

Some of the more fun trophies to collect as well if you're into that, its the only game I've come anywhere near a platinum on. Think I need 2 more trophies for it.

I'm perfectly fine denying that comment, I think the graphics are good, especially for an open world game. The graphics are miles better than Prototype and Crackdown and better than GTAIV too in my opinion. I like the graphical style of it.

I thinks it's settled so, gonna get this as cheap as I can, will trade in one of my old games. I'm fully sure I saw it 2nd hand for 15 somewhere, might try xtravision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,968 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

3 xtravisons, Smiths and Gamestop, no where has this game! I wanted to get from a shop I can trade a game. Will try the other gamestop tomorrow, hope they have it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,968 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Finally got it in Gamestop, 20 euro 2nd hand but they gave me 19 for nba 2k10 so was handy!

Great game!! Will actually try to get my first platinum trophy. Getting around is a bit of a pain at the moment, hope I get thrusters and line sliding soon! Love that if you die (only from mis-directed jumps so far) that it puts you right back into the action!
