Won't on the go bus a few weeks ago. Same price as Bus Eirinn but a lot faster (no rest stops)

Citylink still do the €1 fares afaik. you have to take the bus that stops everywhere though - takes about 4 hours though.

GoBus also go from Dublin and cost €10 single (although it's €18 for a student return).

dunno what bus eireann charges though.

EDIT: just went onto Citylink website. you can still get the €1 fares but you need to book at least two weeks in advance and it's not available on the quicker routes. you have to go for the longer journeys

I travel from Galway to Dublin a fair bit and I find Go Bus the best service.
It's non-stop, has a toilet, wi-fi, buses are always clean, and as already has been pointed out, it's only €10 one way.

Bus Eireann are launching a new Dublin/Galway timetable this weekend with bi-hourly limited stop services and bi-hourly stopping services.

    Times are at:http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1281351874-20.pdf

Fares on Bus Eireann to/from Galway online:
    Single EUR 13.50
    Midweek Return EUR 16.65
    Day Return EUR 16.65
    Standard Return EUR 17.10

They have the €1 single tickets on the non-stop City Link services as well as multi-stop services. There is a very limited number of €1 seats on each bus and as demand for non-stop services is much higher than multi-stop services on the Galway-Dublin route, you will have to book very far in advance to get these cheap tickets on a non-stop service.

Note: You have to book single tickets to get the €1 fares (i.e. - 2 seperate single tickets = €2 for a return trip), you can't book a return ticket and get that rate.

I think the government should set reasonable minimum fares for interurban public service buses (and trains). For Dublin to Galway a 5c/km minimum would produce a 10 Euro each way fare which is hardly much. It is crazy that the privates are cutting each others throats when their State competitor is spending tax money subsidising other interurban transport.

Marginally funny, but lets keep it a bit more constructive.

I travel Galway-Dublin quite a bit and I have only managed to get the €1 fare on 3 occassions ever. Usually end up paying €10 single to Dublin City and €15 single to Dublin Airport (which I think is really reasonable). I would be inclined to think that there are only two or three €1 seats on every City Link bus so it's really only a very limited special promotional fare. I personally don't think it would be time or effort well spent by the government if they were to try to stop City Link from offering these fares.
