The spare parts for it are not the IS200 standard parts, you have to pay a fortune for Toyota Ireland to import them from Japan for you. So servicing can be quite expensive. Also they have crap MPG. Drink the juice like a fish!

The Altezza RS200 had over 200bhp from the Yamaha Beams 4 pot engine, not exactly slow either.

OP if your budget allows then take a look at the Honda Accord Euro R or Subaru Legacy B4 as well:

Servicing is not expensive for them, oil filters, air filters, timing belts etc are shared with other Toyota cars that had the 3SGE engine, folks get carried away with this Yamaha Beams horsesh1t, it's a Toyota 3SGE with some Yamaha tuning expertise valve trickery.

150bhp straight 6s generally do guzzle a bit, don't see why you'd be surprised at that. lol at the not fast, 200 lagless bhp.

Bring a mechanic with you who can tell you if its had the rag driven out of it. Slightest sign of anything that causes doubt then walk away immediately. Your mechanic should be able to tell you what else to look out for.

Hard to spot really, to be fair to a mechanic unless it was ragged from cold and the tyres are in shreds it's often impossible to tell, especially on a motor that loves to be revved once warm. The 3SGE can be reddened regularly with no ill effects once she is warm and has good oil in her.

Cant you tell from the state of the suspension or something? Im not a mechanic so Im not sure exactly what, but from what I gather from talking to people its easy enough to tell if a cars been abused. I mean more from a point of view of drifting, doing donuts, that kind of sh1te. The engine is not so much of a concern; I know they are designed to be driven hard with no ill effect.

Ignore all the haters of the Altezza here. They're a pretty good car and they're RWD.

Not crazy quick and not great on petrol, but they're relatively spacious, look somewhat decent (provided you don't chav the sh1t out of it) and are fairly comfortable.

The Euro R and Legacy are a good shout and imo, probably a better car, but neither of them are RWD if that's what made your mind up about the Altezza.

They are probably in the twilight of their lifespan though so be careful you don't splash out on one that's been abused (as many will have been!).

I was recently looking for an altezza for myself, no BS i found it very hard to find a mint example, the majority had the sh1t driven out of them so be very wary about who you end up buying from. They are essentially the new ae86. I found a 99 grade 4.5 one in Waterford in the end that only had one previous owner since imported 4 years ago with full history (including japan) for 4,500g.

probably was the examples i seen, the two cars i seen (one a Qualitat edition), were been driven very hard, and they didn't look that fast??

    Few people mentioned the B4's.

I owned a Legacy B4 a few years ago. Nice big fast car but an absolute trollop on petrol.
Its a 2 litre twin turbo petrol i suppose, it ain't built for economy. Definitely the quickest car ive owned & certainly the most expensive to run.

Expect not much better than 25/26 mpg combined. Can drop much lower than this around town.

Also owned an IS200. Nice but dull.

You paid €4.5k for an 11 year old 2l Toyota Altezza?

I'm not sure what they usually go for but that seems very high for an 11 year old Toyota!

Thats not expensive, if it was a std is200 then yes ! Try and find a mint example altezza for less than 4k and you have your work cut out for you

have to agree with Ricardo G, if you want a clean one, your gonna pay for it. Easy enough to get one at that price, but it will probably be rough:rolleyes:

Its high for an 11 year old Corrolla, but that is what you can expect to pay for a clean Altezza. A friend bought one recently and its worth every penny; Id sooner drive that than most of the cars half its age youd get for the same money.

Have been lookin at a b4 myself solely due to the price of them. The average seems to be either on par or less than the likes of a teg, accord. Was tempted to get one but i doubt i could afford to run it. Might just go for a trueno as insurance wont quote until im 21 on most stuff although they will on a b4.
Any thoughts between a trueno, levin or accord. All less then 3/4 g if possible. Realise accord will be hard to get at that

That's actually a bargain, I sold a 12 year old Celica for €4800 back in 2007. I'd love to see the state of a sub €4500 1999 Altezza.

Is a Trueno and Levin not the same car ?

Id pick an SiR-T Accord from that list, but tbh if you find one for €3k-€4k then run a mile from it...

My cousin had a B4 RSK for several months and the best he could manage was 18MPG and then the engine blew, 3 times, so your not doing so bad with the S3 :D

Jesus i was getting an average of about 24/25mpg out of my own. Maybe sink to 20mpg if i was a bold boy.

In your cousins case, either the terrible fuel economy was a result of the engine being in a bad shape or he was thrashing the sh!t out of it!?

im looking to buy one myself, but ive read there are 2 different beams models, a grey top and black top, the black top having 207hp and the other 187hp, the grey top has black rocker cover but grey/silver inlet manifold and the black top has black rocker cover and black inlet manifold. Anyone know anything about this?
