i'll start with apologies - I know this must have been dealt with here before - but I cant find it!

I have a sky digi box that just went belly up - I want to get sky+ box - but I don't have a landline [ i have a landline - but its not connected get me?] i know when i originally got the sky digibox in - the guy didnt care and just went ahead and fitted it .... is this likely to happen now or am I screwed unless I pay eircom to reconnect the line?

    thanks and sorry etc...

No need for landline except for multiroom so you're grand

I was told by a SKY rep on the phone that the only reason the phone line was needed was to get customer info - what the customer watched. So presumably they can target the advertising better??

It sucks, thats what it does!!

(Didn't know it was only necessary for MULTIROOM. Why on earth for? I can understand for the first box..........

They use the phone line to check that the boxes are both in the same location - Not sure how exactly!
