listen to AVA..a lot would probably agree..
but im now running protools, with strike, transfuser and eleven..
I must say, its all very stable..integrates perfectly..transfuser can do anything to loops and stuff..its an unbelievable drum machine..strike is like having a drummer in the corner and sayin to him play this..eleven absolutely p*sses all over any other guitar amp plug ive used..pretty much zero latency, but it takes a bit of cpu..all you need on bass too..between strike and eleven im just spending hours not even recording anything, just jamming with strike..it costs that bit more for the instrument expansion, rather than PT alone..but if you're gonna spend e500 on logic, then its not unreasonable..

Is logic any good for live mutitrack recording?

Both systems have their pluses and minuses, and you'll probably get a fairly even spread of opinions on which one is better so my advice would be to give Logic a try and see if you like it more.

If you already own Pro Tools it might be worth sticking with it instead of spending more cash on Logic.

Got Pro Tools there recently. I'm a bit disappointed with it to be honest. It seems I have to fiddle around with the settings to avoid audio spikes when recording and I'm running it on an i7 laptop so there shouldn't be much of a problem.

yes , pro tools is ridiculous like that , i had so so so so so so much trouble pro tools and my mac , im only starting out dude and trust me i have been through it all, i dont know how many daw's,recording gear and ive spent countless amounts of money and logic was the best choice i ever made:) all you need is a good interface and your set :) im flying with logic , im learning so much with it and it is so simple.if you are more production minded etc, the videos on youtube are so great and such a help.pro tools is just trouble and aloud of hassle with computers etc

for you to have problems on a i7 mac is a sign dude , get rid .. end off, you will have no such problem with logic if you are using it with i7 , you will be flying :) it will be the best thing you have done in regards to daw's:)

Don't have a Mac mate so Logic is out of the question at the moment. It's a PC but still it's ridiculous to have problems like that when the computer is well spec'd.

I've reverted back to FL Studio for the time being. It's where I'm most comfortable. Can't wait for the 9.5 update. :)

Would love to give Logic a go if I ever get a Mac.

Funny, I went from Logic to PT, can't stand Logic now.

Yeah, and for someone that moved from PT to logic and hasn't looked back since, AVA seems to have a variety of problems..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭Robin Ball

I had all manner of problems using logic, crashing randomly without reason. Since I switched to PT I have been amazed how unbelievably rock solid it has been.

+1 for rock solid pro tools here

Now, honestly not meaning to knock any of the advice given, but for the sake of reality, i must say this:

    Hypothetical scenario:
"I've been playing guitar now for a few months, I started out with a Fender Strat and had problems being good. So, I've swapped it for a Gibson and it's all working great for me now. I'll probably be a superstar soon. So, i'd say you should defintely buy the Gibson man!"

My point being that Pro Tools is Pro Tools and Logic is Logic, they have their differences but they are only computer programs. I would imagine a lot of the problems that people run into with either one, are down to user error/user inexperience of recording music. It can take a lot of time and/or cost a lot of money to ever get to the point where one can have an accurate opinion on which is more suited for you.

Of course, one may find that at the first few tries either of the programs happens to appear easier to use or need less effort, or suit their scenario, but that's down to an individual. And if that's the extent that you are going to use the program to, then perhaps the best idea would be to save your money and use Reaper or something.

My two pence would be; if you already own a Pro Tools system, it has cost you money and it's good, so use it. The money that logic would cost would be better spent elsewhere.

I use both pro tools for audio and logic for midi that way I don't have to choose a winner as they both are winners. Logics midi is amazing and very resource friendly as opposed to PT where PT audio editing is extremely tight.

Thanks for all the advice have decided to stick with pro tools and buy a mackie onyx 16 channel desk for recording :)

Spot on dav. In a nutshell this is the major difference.

    there you go all sorted

I too used to struggle with the question of what DAW to settle for and as already answered settle for both and leverage as much from each as you can. I used to program midi on PT and even on a Mac Pro it is still far from problem free. But then editing and mixing audio is seemless and stress free in PT. If you are using Spot option for voice overs or Grid for chopping the precision is unsurpassed in comparison to Logic. However I was struggling with PT'S midi implementation and resources so I gave Logic a try and everything sat very tight, I felt that it was down to the music I was writing as opposed to controlling my buffer size in PT and the constant feeling that the timing was out. I picked up Logic in a few days and no I am no master of all its features but its a very simple interface with some very deep features, so its as deep as you want it to be which is a very good thing.

Obi Jim and Dav are spot on.

    Coke or pepsi?
    Mac or PC?
    Burger King or McDonalds?
Starsky or Hutch? (for the ladies:D and a few of you gents)
