Boot will not open

OK this is an odd one...

Lets assume I have an Audi and I cant open the boot. I can't tell you what model Audi it is because I don't own an audi, I own a camper van that was modified with the rear end of an audi for storage.

Anyway the boot will not open and it seems the lock had been broken to allow access with any key since it is not for secure storage, just sticking stuff in on a camping trip. I just bought it and cant open it.

So anyone have any ideas? Will drilling through the lock allow me to open it? Since it is just for storage I don't even need to replace it, I can just attach some other external lock system to keep it closed.

Wow. If it's any help, that's an Audi 80 boot. Have you tried pushing the keyhole in, like a button?

We've had a few of those Audis & the boot lock could sometimes be fiddly. The button pushes in to open & still pushes in when locked but does nothing. If you can actually turn the barrel you should manage to open it.
Normally of course you would go in through the back seat & release boot but that is going to be tricky in this case.

I can't turn the barrel unfortunately.
Actually the van is an LDV convoy.

Perhaps if I try the drill on a low speed with a fathead screwdriver attachment I can turn the barrel and release whatever is stuck.

It is a mad looking thing. I was driving it up the M4 last week and some scobes in a Civic overtook me but as they got close in the overtaking lane they stayed behind me for a few minutes, no doubt admiring the view, or possibly trying to figure out how to get an audi boot on the back of the civic.... Eventually they moved on and as they passed all the heads turned to look at the front of the van. Maybe they were looking for the front of an audi as well? :D

Well I drilled through the lock and it opens now once I poke something through and hit the catch so I am good.

I might replace it with a simpler type lock but for now it works.

Hah, I still have it. Still going strong, though has had a number of expensive jobs done. Made some minor modifications over the years.
One thing that never worked was the DVD system. Either do the little side lights as they don't seem to get any power. I have never really been bothered with them so haven't tried to fix other than check with a multimeter.
