Free Public WiFi on/around the Luas??

Was coming home from work today and out of curiousity turned on my phone's WiFi.

For the duration of the journey I picked up a signal called "Free Public WiFI" - Open Authorisation, No encryption, and a full 4/4 bars of signal. While I could "connect" to it, I wasnt able to open any websites unfortunately.

Even when I got off the Luas and there were no trams nearby I could pick up 2/4 bars of a signal within 50 feet of the track.

Anyone know anything about this and what I need to do to connect?

There is nothing on the Luas website about it

This has been going around a while. Basically, someone on the Luas had a laptop or mobile phone broadcasting this SSID. The idea is, you'll see it and connect to it but it won't work. But now your wireless settings have this profile defined so now your machine will broadcast it out too. It's an ad-hoc (computer to computer) profile rather than an infrastructure/access point profile.

Here's some more info on it.

Been going on for years... A Harmeless "viral style" nonsense

Set all WiFi Devices to only connect to Infrastructure by default.
