Apparantly the new 3DS is going to have a new foolproof anti piracy, anti R4 card security system! What do you think this is, and how long until some company in China crack it!

    Hopefully long enough.

(ie:a nice long length at least)

about a month and it will be cracked. but it may not be as easy to play back games as the R4 cards.

There are rumors of a PSP style firmware update system with every new game release! Not perfect, but still way more difficult to bypass then the R4 cards.

Nintendo is second only to the PC in how badly they deal with piracy. if they can copy whatever magic the PS3 uses they'll be set.

I'm pretty sure R4 cards are creating huge losses so they may have invested huge amounts to ensure a high level of security for the new devices being manufactured.

As an example, I would have never seen some of my friends with a DS until the R4 card became so easily available.

I'm in the same boat - I never considered a DS until I could get a card - so in some ways I'm not a loss to Nintendo - I spent 179 on an XL, bought 4 new carts (probably another 100) and spent about 30 in the DSi store - and let me make it absolutely clear if it wasn't for the availability of an Acekard I would not have bought it.

So you look at it that I'm a terrible person because I've played a couple of game that would have been a nightmare to get my hands on (that I'd have bought 2nd hand anyways) or you can can say Nintendo (and other companies) got 300 euro out of me which they wouldn't have got if R4 carts didn't exist - and now I'm considering spending another 1600 points on Art Academy :)

Is that a Nintendo official comment from somewhere? Pretty bold statement to make, & pretty stupid too. All it does is entice people to break the unbreakable, & earn themselves a name.

Hopefully there's merit in the statement, seeing people selling flash cards loaded with pirated games for 80/100 euro on stalls does my head in! Flash cards have made the "bloke down the pub" too much money

Link to BBC story about PS3 being hacked.

Unlikely video a fake, so PS3 not cast iron either by look of it.

Definitely not cast iron, but it's becoming more & more likely this thumb drive is based on a stolen/copied/cloned PS3 Jig unit (an official device, used by techs/dev). So it boiled down to good ol' theft to get the job done it seems, with geohot etc all failing on the software end.

That only helps Nintendo themselves though, not third party developers. And without third party developers you get another gamecube. I agree with you though, i know so many people who got a ds because of the availability of cards. But this time i hope nintendo can do a better job with the security.
