    Written in his blog yesterday:
"I was never due to run the heat of the relay and team management knew this. They knew the timetable well in advance of the championships but there was a serious lack of communication and team managment.

The media, mainly journalists who just hopped on the bandwagon and never write a thing about athletics, had a field day about the whole thing, saying I was a bad Irishman and I had let my team mates down. It just irritates me when they don't know the facts of the whole matter. What was said about me not running the relay because I didn't get a medal in the 400m individual was a load of crap. But I will not let people who know nothing about my sport get to me."

This seems to be in stark contrast to what team manager Patsy McGonagle was inferring to the media about the relay.

McGonagle: "After his race David felt he would be unable to run so I went to the next available member of the team. I'm sure if David had been in the team and been able to run they would have qualified for the final."

I'd be inclined to believe Gillick over McGonagle any day of the week.
