    hi,

I am just curious about running shoe sizes. I was recently sold a pair of 6.5 sized shoes, when I am normally wearing size 5 shoes... I trained for over 2 years in a size 5 pair, did a marathon and all, no problems, so was a bit surprised with this sudden growth. The person selling me the shoes insisted on giving me this huge size, and could barely convince him not to give me size 7...
It's really not good - have tried with various socks etc but I jsut have to tie the shoes super tightly which make my feet numb (also have narrow feet and it's very roomy). I have read on the net that you need to add so much to your regular size? I also don't know what to do with this pair now - they are too big but cannot return them any longer...

    thanks..

I always wear running shoes one or 1.5 sizes bigger than my street shoes. I'm convinced this is the main reason why I still have a full set of toe nails. :)

I'd give the bigger shoes a go, to be honest.

thanks - I have tried running the shoes several times (20+) but still not happy at all... I am thinking of buying .5 size smaller. Really annoyed, spent a lot of money for nothing....
    thanks

Its only my opinion but ...
Scaryfairy ,If i were you I would live up to your name and go back to the shop and tear them a new one ... apart from the runners been basically useless , you will/could end up with a litany of injuries that the least of which could be lost toes nail due to foot movement.
I would go to a local shoe shop , get your feet measured (pretend your looking for shoes) and then armed with this go back to them .
Are they a reputable store (without naming names)? Are they support shoes ?
I had a similar issue , was measured in Elverys Headford rd Galway for the last 2 pairs of runners and they put me size 13 Kayano (without too much questioning-there there the experts -right ?) . Long story short Several missing toe nails later with persistant ankle injury ,hard dead skin on toes, pins and needles etc i went to Amphibian king about 4 weeks ago , they now have me in size 11.5 Mizuno and I haven't looked back . They have been a revelation.
My problem with the bigger shoes were that the support around the arch/ankle was uselesss as the foot moved and the opposite to TFBubendorfer in that my toes had too much movement so I tended to claw the toes when running which resulted more friction and less toe nails
Used 20 times or not I would go back to the shop , you bought them in good faith .

thanks - sounds like you had a very similar experience... sorry to hear about those toe nails! I might go back if for nothing else for reassessing my foot situation...
I read (and tbh, it's pretty obvious..) that your feet kinda get swollen by the end of the day, and you can end up buying the wrong size if you do your shopping in the morning.. the problem may have been that by the time I got to the shop, I think my feet reached their max size (not a pretty pic I know) so there was no need to add that half an inch or so. The shop is pretty reputable (that's why I listened to them..), but it was just before closing time, so it was quite rushed... :(. To think of it, the previous model I was wearing up till now also came from a very good shop, and did full gait analysis etc, and at no point did they suggest that I should get 2 sizes up. The previous model I had was for light overpronators, and now I need a bit more support...
