    I think I have a leak !! :eek::o
    Symptoms: There is noise (hissing) coming from the bathroom, utility room & kitchen sink, loudest from the kitchen sink. Info: I am on a mains supply, the house is a bungalow. The lever for turning off the mains feed to the house is in the hot press. When I turn this off the noise stops. I see no water damage (yet, thankfully).
    So............what do I do next, is there anything I can do to 'sniff' it out, or is there a company/plumber that does this kind of thing ? ;)

    Are you sure its not the trouble and strife doing all that hissing:)

    normally this one is under the sink in kitchen and the ones in the HP are for cutting off the water supply from the tank in attic to immersion cylinder and other cold feeds in house other than the cold to kitchen sink.

    It would help to know if the hissing is only when u have hot or cold taps open

    Does 'trouble and strife' = my missus, then you could be right :D

    No, there's no tap/lever under the sink, the lever in the HP turns off cold water to the kitchen tap immediately, but the cold tap in the bathroom isn't turned off, presumably fed from the attic tank. So, when the lever is turned off in the HP, the 'hissing' stops, and I can now see signs of water under the sink, ie. on the timber under the kitchen units.
    But, another immediate Q is, does my insurance cover damage to the kitchen units, and the repair work ?

    Cant answer insurance Q
    however sound like there is a leak from cold tap in kitchen: has pressure increased on mains lately?

    if u any way handy cut the back panel out of the unit under the sink: also remove kick boards.

    Depending on the way the sink is fitted easy enough to remove and fix leak

    Definitely a leak on the cold tap alright. Interesting you should mention the increase in the mains, as a few days after we heard the 'hissing', the CC were working just below our house (on the main road) ie. they were digging and then re-tarred the road, and again today a little further down the road !!
