IPod Shuffle - Old model v's new model for running

Just wondering has anyone upgraded to the new version of the IPod shuffle and how do you find it?

I've had the original one for years but it has finally given out on me. I love it as it's nice and compact for running/gym. So I thought I would make a purchase again. But now there's a newer model out but see that you now control the navigation/shuffle via the earphones - not happy with that as I don't like having the dependency on one set of earphones.

The old model is now dearer to buy than the new model so hence my query - worth upgrading or stay with old??

    STAY WITH THE OLD!

I have the new one and its a balls. The earphones (im on my 2nd pair) all go faulty pretty quickly and you can only use the earphones for volume/changeing songs etc. What genius at apple came up with that idea like.

Iv ordered an old model on amazon.co.uk for next to nothing.

The earphones for the new model are like 30e to buy. Apple will give you 1 free pair when the old ones go faulty but you have to send off for them meaning you are earphoneless until they send you the new pair.

Not worth the hassle or money. Stay away.

I have the new one and bought one of these: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW952VC/A

Its not a cheap solution but it lets you use your own earphones and still control the I-pod.
Have to say, I have not used my shuffle in ages, but tomorrow I am out for a long run on my own (due to scheduling issues this weekend), so I am planning on dusting it down... (And charging it up :o)

The earphones on the new one are a joke, the sweat infiltrates the control just under the right earphone and the volume stops working, other days you can't change songs. You gotta open the thing up and let it dry off i read online which worked a few times then finally mine got stuck on the loudest possible volume which i'm not gonna run with or i will slowly go deaf. New earphones cost 33 euro in argos, The bloody thing only cost me 52 euro in the first place.

This happened to me too! Plus I found the batter life crap. I had to charge it for hours before every single run. Very annoying. It also used to get stuck on the one song (ok, that may be more to do with my clumsiness!), and found it very frustrating. I'm now using a cheapy philips mp3. The sound is much better, and it shuffles, which is all I really want.

Ditch the shuffle and get a Sandisk clip+

cheaper, more space, expandable to 40GB, radio and you can use your own headphones.

The new shuffle isn't great for running due to the headphones having the only controls

I had a Sandisk Clip but it got a bit wet one day and then although it continued to work I couldn't connect to it from the PC, so could not change the music on it. A couple of months later it got wet again and totally packed up.
To replace that I got a new ipod shuffle for Christmas last and was disgusted to find that I could only control it from the headphones. I got it for running and there is just no way I can use those earbuds running. They just fall out. I had to get that Belkin adapter for an extra 13 or 14 euro. Not very happy with that. But in fairness it works well now with my old headphones and the adapter. I've had no issues with the battery life.
