We will be holding another open day at the station on Sunday 29th August from 9am - 5 pm All welcome,

On Display will be our Royal Carriage, used by the WL&WR as a Royal Saloon in 1897 to transport the Duke & Duchess of York from Limerick to Killaloe and Adare during the occasion of their visit to Ireland.

We are currently putting together a booklet on this carriage in preparation for her restoration, If anyone has any additional history or info on her we would be grateful if you could post below or e-mail us.

    Kind Regards

    Paul Lynch

Why would anybody here know? Try IRN. If it wasn't for myself and a couple of other enthusiasts the wretched thing would have met the same fate as its two 6-wheel conterparts at Claremorris. They, another WL&WR carriage and an MGWR postal van, were pushed up the stub of the Ballinrobe branch and smashed up with a digger. The Mansell wheels belong to me and were/are dumped down the embankment out the line.

At a guess the Irish Railway Record Society (Heuston Station, Dublin) might have information in their archives. There was a book on the WL&WR published a few years back as well.

Photo on ebay of your carriage in Claremorris. Possibly taken in 1964, you can ask the seller to confirm. I doubt it budged an inch until it was preserved in the mid eighties.
