Dell Warranty?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but..

I'm considering renewing my warranty and getting a 3 year one, because my laptop is unusable at the moment (won't turn on, battery problem). I have an Inspiron 1525, but they've specifically told me the warranty will not cover accidental damage. After hearing this I looked at the battery and it looks like there's a chip on it from a fall (which I now remember).

Anyway, I need to do something soon, so will I chance buying the warranty? Or would that be a complete waste of money because they wouldn't fix it from a fall? Thanks in advance for any replies!

Is the chip noticeable at first glance?

It kind of is ya..the battery kind of "hooks in" to two "hooks" on the laptop, and one of those is missing :S are they really that strict on damage you've caused yourself?

I honestly don't know. Is it worth spending the €90 or whatever it costs for the warranty to find out?

I suppose it's at the engineers discretion. As long as the laptop doesn't look like it's been badly abused you might be alright.

I know if it were me that's the way I'd approach it.

Depends how much under the kosh they are.

Ya, I might chance it alright.. €190 though :S I asked on here to see if anyone had been in the same situation before. Thanks for your help jpl :)

    Ah you're welcome.

I think if you just paid them to fix the problem it would be around €300 (they have a flat fee for fixes as I recall).

They replaced an LCD on a 1525 for me which was cracked from accidental damage after I agreed to take out a 3 year warranty. It was just prior to the expiry of the original warranty though.

When they send someone out to repair the machine, they will send the broken part back to Dell - not sure at this stage if they would try to bill you for accidental damage.

Batterys however are not normally covered out of warranty. I replaced a 9 cell battery 2 months ago on a 1720 which has the same battery as the 1525. Dell were looking for 138 Euro - I bought a 9 cell replacement on ebay for 35 Sterling incl. shipping, and even though you hear that a lot of ebay batteries are counterfeit, this one is working perfect for me - it holds a 2.5 - 3 hr charge and has not degraded one bit since I started using it. If you need the name of the seller PM me.

batteries are also expendable accessories. They wouldnt normally be covered anyway.
