Ball placement

Where should the ball line up to my body on my drives and iron shots?
I was always ok with that, never thought about it and all was grand, but recently something, dunno what, got me thinking about it and has messed my head up.

    I'm left-handed.

I'm only a beginner but I can tell you what I was told in one of my first lessons.

For drives, the ball should be more or less in line with your lead foot (in your case right foot, being a lefty)

For each iron, the ball should be gradually moving towards your back leg so that for wedges it's almost in line with it.

I wouldnt agree with progressively moving the ball back in your stance with irons.
The general consensus is that you play the Woods off the inside of the lead foot and the irons slightly back from that to midway but it can vary on the player.
Wedges in the centre and progressively move the ball up as the number gets lower. More than anything really, it's all on feel and what is comfortable within the correct range. It also depends a lot on the lie and the playing conditions
The only time I'd recommend a wedge shot off the back foot is for a low punch shot ,you seriously deloft the club playing it off the back foot.
