Place across from the A1 bar, used to be PGT Motors, had a huge sign tonight, saying 'Limerick fuels-City diesel 116.9.
Had a look in as I was passing and saw 2 brand new pumps.

Unusual to see a diesel only station.

Could have been 'Limerick diesel-City fuels' not sure.

    Strange....

Strange indeed, diesel only, no petrol, saw it myself yesterday, makes you wonder who the supplier is, could it be from the oilfields of south Armagh? :D

Never again will I buy cheap unbranded diesel. 5c cheaper is not worth it when there's €1500 worth of damage to your engine.

I didn't buy from this place, and I'm not saying they are selling dodgy diesel, but I won't ever take that chance again.

I'm also very cautious about the prospect of that happening, it didn't happen to me but to my mum and best friend who both filled up in dodge station at home.

I live across the road from that Limerick Fuels- City Diesel. The sign wasn't there yesterday ( or at least not that I noticed, and I'm pretty damn observant) but there it was this morning. It's on the junction of Clare St./Pennywell Road/Dublin Rd, in where Unicabs is. As tempting as it was to go over and fill up there this morning, I just didn't want to take the risk.

Modern diesel injectors and fuel pumps do not like dirty or washed diesel resulting in expensive repair bills. Could be 100% genuine but I'm not willing to chance it myself for the sake of a few cent.

Exactly what happened to me. Pretty sure it was washed, can't prove anything, and have no evidence I bought the diesel there. Expensive lesson well learned.

Even at 5c a litre, it's only €2 on a 40l fill. Even if you're filling up every day, that's not a significant amount of money to risk destroying your engine for.

But buying more expensive fuel doesn't eleminate the risk that's it's washed or dirty.

It's not really about how much you pay for it, it's about where you buy it from and where it is sourced. A franchised forecourt is also less likely to sell dirty or washed diesel as word travelling around that their forecourt may have sold dirty or washed fuel could potentially put them out of business.

Anyway its only speculation but I won't be taking the chance.

No, but at least with a branded station you have a much lower chance of getting dodgy diesel. With a no brand, and cheaper, station, you don't know where they source it. Could well be legit, but that is also the kind of place you'll find washed diesel.

All I can say is my dirty diesel came from a no-brand garage, so that's it for me and no-brand garages.

has anyone bought diesel from this place? I saw an ad for them in yesterdays Limerick Independent, surely if it was washed or dodgy in any way they wouldn't be drawing attention to themselves by putting ads in the paper??
Although I suppose they have to sell it somehow:p

One of the petrol stations in shannon posted how much they buy/sell fuel for, and the markup was only 5c per litre.

These guys are 7c cheaper then most of Limerick. I suppose they could have a more recent fill of their tanks then the others, and maybe got a better rate, but I'm still a little wary.

Saying that though, they are obviously advertising their business in the open, and the stuff we're wondering about would have been wondered about by customs & excise I'm sure. (Not sure if that is the department that deals with it!)

Anyone know the current wholesale price for diesel for a small forecourt?

Well ill fill up tomorrow, and keep the receipt. If car nukes itself, there will be hell to pay!

Is this place still open? I saw they lowered it to 115.9, but I've only ever seen one taxi driver actually use the place. I wouldn't use it myself, but have to wonder how they are staying open?

Still open but that emo one at the beginning of clare street are keeping to 1 cent per litre more expensive then them. For the extra cent, im definitely going to the reputable dealer.

    @ck the local residents.

Cowboys like this place do not deserve support. They are pratically giving the two fingers to people in society that actually go to the bother of obtaining planning permission, ensure that the premises has a fire certificate etc.

Anyone can open a business up but only the relevant authorities can allow them to stay open so if anyone is the blame it is the local authorities who are not enforcing planning guidelines and rules.

The one good thing from this is that it is forcing the local rivals to be more competitively priced.

Has the old Texaco/Esso (not sure which  ) past Westbury been reopened yet? There'd been a sign up for a Gala store opening there when I left the country...
