I would like to give one of my friends a present of a round of Golf somewhere in Ireland. I am from Galway so it would be obviously be handy for it to be in the west of Ireland. I am lookin for somewhere that is a nice good course but is reasonably priced.

    All suggestions and advice appreciated

    How much is 'reasonably priced'?

Hi OP my own personal opinion would be to get a voucher for Galway Bay in Oranmore should cost about 50 euro if you wanted a course nearby. Further a field but still in Connaught is Carne Golf links in Belmullet, Mayo cost around 30-60 depending on time of year etc. check out their websites for prices but for me Carne is the best value for money in the country.

Another thing to consider (maybe you already have) is that your friend will most likely want to play with somebody else on the day so you might cover 2 people? Buying one expensive round, while a nice treat, might mean he/she would find it difficult to get someone to join them :)

Thanks for the replies guys. Ya i'm gonna get it for a fourball so as he can just invite whoever he wants. Was thinking about Galway bay alright but the prices seem so differnent depending on when he would go. I don't really want any restrictions on it, just that he can go whenever he wants with no hassle over extra fee's or his friends not being able to go etc

Don't forget Portumna - great value and a great course. And Gort would be another possibility, but not in the same pedigree as Galway Bay - although both designed by Christy O'C

Great value at €25/30. Tough, tight course. Plenty of hills. Be prepared to feel the effects afterwards or if your soft rent a buggy.

Ok I've spent the last 3 hours looking through the top 100 golf courses in Ireland and I have narrowed it down to these based on what I can afford and what seems like value.

    Help appreciated

    • Concrawood located in CastleBlaney
    • HeadFort loacated in Kells Co. Meath
    • Eskir Hills
    • Dromoland Castle
What would you be most happy with as a present? or other suggestions

He has played Carne, Enniscrone and Rosses Point before so I would like to get him somewhere he hasn't played yet

Have played them all except Concra. Close call but Headford would come out on top quality wise. Bit of a trek from the west though. Dromoland is a stunning course to and closer to home-plus if they are doing deals he might be able to get some 5 star food thrown in as well.

Excellent course but very tough and LOTS of hills!!! Haven't played there in 2 years but will be on the first tee at 16:20 today!!!! Hope the weather holds up.

€20 for the open day today.

Well, where do i start. Course is in excellent condition, tee boxes like putting greens, perfectly mown fairways. Rough not too bad. Go too far wayward with drives and you'll get away with it on a good few of the holes - thankfully i only missed one fairway all day. Some very very tight lines from tee shots. First 9 greens played very slow but were in great condition. Bunkers had plenty of sand but some stones in a few of them. Pity abut the ponds on the course though as they are overgrown with lilly pads and weeds - birds were actually walking on them!!

Overally i really enjoyed playing there. Its a great course and would highly recommend it.

    Going back again next tuesday!

    Hi,
I'll Vote for concrawood the one of the most visually stunning courses you can play in this country. Played enniscrone for the first time at the weekend and it is a great course reminded me a bit of Royal county down in places.
    Mike
