Thinning hair

    Hi all

I don't know if this is the correct forum to be posting this in but just need some advice. I am a 32 year old woman and over the last 2 years my hair on top has gone very thin. You can very clearly see my scalp. I don't have any bald patches and nothing has falling out. It's just gotten very thin. I have always had a big thick mop of hair and it still is like that at the back but not on top at the front. It is very upsetting and I worry that it will get worse. I have tried all sorts of shampoos, massing the scalp and vitamin tablets for hair growth. My hair otherwise is in good nick. Hairdresser always say so but so thin on top!

Anyone any advice on who to go to for specific help with this or recommend any thing I could be doing. I live in Limerick

    Thanks a lot

As a male, can I reply to this?

My wife had a similar problem after becoming pregnant.
Previously she has fine but luxuriant hair.

My wife went to her doctor and he said he'd run several tests for hormone/enzyme activity.
Nothing abnormal showed up on the tests.
Separately my wife started to use a product advertised by Cheryl Baker (Bucks Fizz fame) and she purchased a product called Nourkrin.

Initially there was no change but after several treatments, my wifes hair began to return to it's former luxuriant state.

    Google Cheryl Baker.

I hope that this is of help!

I'm in a similar position and it really does get me down at times. I tried the Rogaine stuff which was messy and made my hair look greasy all the time (my thin hair at least doesn't look bad!) I also tried the Nourkin stuff with some initial success but after a few months (and a couple of hundred euro), it didn't really work anymore. I saw a dermatologist who took a whole 30 seconds to say there was nothing that could be done. There's pills that men can take but they make women sterile. I manage mine with haircut and colour - my hairdresser is the only one who has been really helpful. I saw something on Xpose about a place in Dublin where you can get weaves. I'm not at that stage yet but will definitely consider it if it gets worse as I get older.
