    Hello there,

I'm working on a website for a company i'm setting up called Gopher Games.

I've got most of the basic structure and navigation set up and want to go about polishing it up and making it look a bit better however i'd like to get people's feedback on it before i start working on it any more . . .

All comments and feedback greatly appreciated.

    The link is www.gophergames.ie/wordpress

    Cheers

    Mosey

Few things I’d recommend – some with a greater sense of urgency than others.

If the site is a work in progress – l’d bot bar your site and stop it from being indexed as it is currently. You can do this via your robots file (ie get one) or a no index meta. you only want the final product indexed - the rough drawings! I’d do that today!

Do the prerry url’s, it is worth it.

Get a seo plugin for w/p – you need to look at yourt descriptions and titles (eventually)

Also I’d move it down a directory away from /wordpress/ to it’s root.

These are a few top of head stuff – but do stop it being indexed.

    Thanks for those. . . i'll un-index it tonight.

The reason i have it in the /wordpress root right now is because i've got a holding page put up right now on the main page . . . anyway around that?

Just point your default page to that holding place on the hosting server. That way if you type in www.example.com url it will bring you to that holding page but if you type in www.exmaple.com/index.php which is wordpess home page it will bring you to the wordpress. (I assume that holding page is .htm )

B4 doing anything - you'll have to make a few amends as your blog is defaulting to http://www.gophergames.ie/wordpress/ and all your settings are pointing to that.

Backup your wordpress folder! Copy it to your Desktop even

FIRST: Follow the institution's below, V important to take it step by step - I can vouch for that

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

Make sure you copy over all the files even the hidden ones (esp .htaccess) in the /wordpress/ folder (unhide all of them and copy them to the root)

    Then:

In wordpress make a page with your hold graphic, call it - 'hold' perhaps. Publish it.

    Administration>Settings>Reading:

Click 'A static front page' and select the Hold page from 'Front Page'

    (save it!!)

    Presto.

Your logo looks really nice, but it is way too complicated. It should be easy to remember and recognise i.e. simpler.

    Get a favicon.

Header is too big, try to reduce the height to <200pixels. Clouds and grass would be better replaced by something game oriented.

Change Contact Us and Sitemap links text colour to something better.

Make better use of your homepage's main content area. Put some of your best products in there. Try also to include special offers and any FREE stuff/deals.

You could leave the Special Offer bit on the right, but move it above other elements so it displays 'above the fold'. Below Shopping Cart would be good.

    Sort out your facebook link.

Tighten up the Newsletter area and apply a style to the sign up button. Also link this to an archive when appropriate.

Put your contact details in, including postal address. I'd also put the address at the bottom of every page. Also link to delivery info.

Change 'Add to Cart' buttons to orange background.

Try to get other poker and casino type products: tables, cutcards, buttons etc. that's a big market you should cater for.

Check all of your links. One is trying to link to 127.0.0.1 which is localhost on each user's computer. It probably won't show up as a broken link when you check it, but it is.

    Spellcheck and check punctuation thoroughly.

Hi Mosey, site seems to be currently offline but apart from some minor glitches looked lovely when i saw it up and running last week.

Can you tell us more about the business element of your site? Do you sell board games? Will you be selling just from your site or have you a distribution agreement in place? Its an interesting marketplace with lots of competition. Also a very seasonal business. Would love to hear more about your business vison.

    Rob
