I see on the news that Ramadan starts tomorrow. As I understand it, this means no food or drink from sunrise to sunset.

I presume this means that there are no muslims living above the Arctic Circle because if there is daylight for 6 months of the year, you'd get pretty hungry waiting for sunset. I wonder how muslims will deal with this if they ever find themselves living in northern Finland.

Its a bit more complicated then that. Even if its dark at 6pm, they might have to wait to 7.30pm

I know two muslim lads and they were trying to explain it to me.

No food means no energy for wife beating so I endorse ramadan.

Bit of a strange practice. Some of the more diligent observers chew on a piece of material which absorbs saliva, the basic idea being you cant swallow anything.

I was wondering does blasphemy come into play if you abuse religion online as on facebook I joined the "I am a muslim and proud" group and started leaving comments like "god is the man" and "jesus is my hero" ?

So is it always a 14hour period, and they choose the times based on the location? As in, when the sun rises and sets in your area/country?

Ramadan is suppose to be a time of reflection about people who are worse off then you e.g. starving/in famine areas.

iirc they do prayers thanking allah for the food they're about to eat after breaking the fast each day. From the lads i talked to they find it a very spiritual time.

In the UK, Asda does Ramadan Calendars for kids like advent calendars.

Under AH's newly imposed Shariah law your account is suspended for apostacy.

There are all sorts of time tables for different parts of the world IIRC. They have all the bases covered, so Big Arsed Omar as he's known to his mates cant bugger off to the south pole to try and pull a fast one. No pun intended.

TBH I think its a good idea. The odd bit of fasting is good for the soul and body. Most people in the west have no idea what is actual hunger. They usually respond to a sugar drop or thirst. Might do more people good to actually feel it. Might help reset their insulin regulation too. There have been many studies which show low level fasting has very positive effects on the immune system and body in general. Though any Muslim lads I know wreck that by going hell for leather on the grub after sundown :D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I for one welcome our new Caliph. Anyway all publicity is good publicity. Its a plot I tells ya. The buggers are taking names. "Here what if the infidel asks about X?". "Dont worry oul son, I've been through all the arguments on AH and have the answers" :D Hey worse case scenario? well drink will be gone, but on the bright side, we'll have less crime and burglers will have their scummy hands chopped off. Result.

I ate once a day for about 2 months. It was pretty much the same as ramadan without the religion. Was pretty interesting. I was full of energy all day and way more alert.

I'm not sure "I'm giving up the internet for a while" is really what the point was. Especially not considering the original was fasting for 40 days :D

And therein lies the rub - there are millions of practising Christians across the globe. But very few of them are devout.

......and then the hairy fairy said "Dont eat anything" and all the people who believed in fairies ate nothing. Which left more for people who dont believe in fairies or fairytales.

i think it's a good idea in principle, but like everything else it's just an excuse to overindulge once it's over and a lot of the true meaning of it is most likely lost on a lot of the people taking part.

muslims in general do seem to be a pretty devout bunch but i imagine there's no shortage of cakes and such once the sun has gone down at the end of the day.

I once had a glass of some very nice sort of tea from a Muslim man whom I bought a car from in London. Still I think the religion should be banned.

But then they had to go off and pray for salvation after speaking to an infidel.

Quiet, you. Get back into the kitchen. I want some spicy chicken wings cooked for me.

If you even try to disagree with this, then we will take it up on 9/11. :)*

    Ask in Islam forum.

A few bans in this thread, when do I get my next star?
