Hi, apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place - please feel free to move this post if so :)

I want to speak to a professional about some issues concerning what I assume are related to jealousy, paranoia, insecurity and possessiveness - and I say assume, because it's quite a specific issue that I have. When I drink heavily, I say awful things to my husband - accuse him of things he hasn't done, become jealous and nasty etc. I am not like this with anyone else (though I was the same with previous partners) and it is only when I drink heavily. It can't go on. Obviously the drink is a trigger but there's underlying stuff there that I need to address too. The reason I'm giving you all this information is because I'd like some advice on the kind of professional I should be looking for. I'm confused by all the different kinds - CBT, psychotherapy, psychology, psychiatrist, counsellor etc. I really need to address this but I don't know where to start.

    Thank you.

Hello Tattykitty, we can't advise you which approach will suit you because that is partly to do with your own preference! I would say go to the Irish Council of Psychotherapy website, where they give a description of different kinds of therapy, and see which you like the idea of. Then read the How to find a Counsellor/Therapist sticky thread above.
Good luck and hope this is useful for you.
