Where to run in Dublin?

    Hi everyone...:)

I' ll be moving to Dublin in two months and was wondering if anyone could tell me about options on where to run in the city?

I'm used to running on either roads, sport grounds or in parks - here, in Berlin.
As I haven't been to Dublin before, I don't know if the roads are safe for running or if there are special routes in parks for runners?!
    I'm not that professional in running...only doing 8k 3-4x a week.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and hints... :)

Phoenix Park! It's 2 or 3 km from the very centre of the city, full of runners.

Where in Dublin are you staying?

If you're planning on living in the centre of Dublin, this will probably be your best bet: http://www.phoenixpark.ie It's our equivalent of the Tiergarten.

Thanks for the fast reply... :)

I'm not quite sure where I'll be staying yet...However as I'll be working near Eden Quay, I'll try to find a room in the city centre...
So, Phoenix Park would be perfect.

Would you recommend to run their in the evening hours as well? Thinking of the Tiergarten, I -being a young woman - would avoid running there alone when it's getting dark...

Is there anything you would recommend regarding the area of Dublin 2, 4, 6 or 8?

I'd recommend contacting a running club, to be honest - Donore Harriers and Liffey Valley AC are both based very close to the park, and I'm sure they'd have running groups in the evenings that would suit you. There is one main road through the park that is quite well lit and always has traffic, but I don't know that I'd feel safe as a woman running alone there.

I do sometimes see people running around the city centre but the streets aren't really suitable - there's a lot of traffic, and many of the pedestrianised streets are cobbled. Plus, since you're not from Dublin you're not going to know which streets are safer and which should be avoided. As you move out of the city, into Dublin 4 and 6, the streets would become more suitable for running. In Dublin 8 you'd have a higher proportion of areas which are less safe to run in.

I live on Pearse Street, (near Eden Quay). One of my 8k loops from here takes me out to Irishtown and then along the seafront path towards Booterstown, then back. There's only 1 road to cross on that route so its a handy run. Its well lit/safe with plenty of dog walkers/runners etc in the evening.

I'm sure you'd pick it out on maymyrun.com

    Its all Dublin 2/4.

If you end up around Dublin 4, Herbert Park is a favourite for runners and walkers, or Sandymount strand is good too?
