Don't know if I'm posting in the right area but I'm looking for some advice on building regulations. We have a site but its close to the M1 and we were told that you cant build within 100 meters of a motorway boundry:(.Is this true and has anyone actually built this close to a motorway in the last 5 years?Any information would be great:)

this generally comes from either the NRA or its in your local authorities development plan, its nothing to do with building regulations.

some kind of separation distance is a steadfast rule, generally 100m is the applicable level.

If it is your only landholding you "may" have an argument... but it would be a very very uphill application

Hmmm... why would anyone want to live 100m from a motorway? The noise will drive you mad. There are simple barriers, such as hoardings, tall trees, grass on slope etc which are effective in terms of reducing decibel levels, but not to any significant degree. Sitting out the back garden during heavy traffic flow will drive you insane - I lived 150m away from a motorway years ago.
