iphone 4 case programmme - Apple UK Site

I've been mulling an iphone 4 and it got me thinking about the 3G to 3Gs upgrade.

I also noticed that the 'case programme' (providing bumpers to resolve the signal issue) is in place on Apple's UK site.

What it found intriguing is that the offer ends on 30th September 2010.

Why would they stop the offer if the problem won't be fixed

Does this imply that on or before Sept 30th, they'll be upgrading the hardware, or including a permanent fix from new?

I've read articles 'no hardware fix for iphone 4', but thought the above somewhat contradicts this.

maybe after sep 30, you get one with the phone at time of purchase?

Either that or they are going to introduce a plastic coating on the stainless steel of the iPhone antenna with iPhone's bought after this date. This is heavily rumoured as Apple are putting in millions of new orders for their Verizon CDMA iPhone, makes sense to tweak a little and cheaper than giving away 30euro bumpers! It's not an issue in Ireland anyway with our strong networks.

I assumed it was because after that date you could be deemed to be "aware" of the issue before purchase - in which case Apple feel they have no responsibility to provide you with a case for a device you bought in full knowledge of it's potential failings.

That would be particularly lousy on their behalf!

well they are giving out millions of dollars worth of cases for free, most of which are to people who are experiencing no antenna problems.

    there is no free lunch.

But they said there is no antennagate :)

It is looking increasingly likely that the offer ends on 30 september because of some sort of redesign to fix the problem. Today on the UK 3 forum and elsewhere from someone working with corporate accounts there are independent reports that they a getting no more until sometime next month (according to the corporate guy) and 21 september is a date cropping up on 3 forums.
