never heard of it, but it would be an idea, i know when i was a kid, various local businesses would look after locals....well mainly pubs actually!! They would provide a tab for the workers who can settle on payday, so i guess they were looking after themselves really!

You'd be well advised to stay away from any of those companies as the interest rate would be way OTT.

Why don't you ask your bank to approve and overdraft facility?

Those places charge like 1200% APR.

There is an ad on telly about one in the UK - it actually has at the bottom of the screen - 1246% APR.

They seem to be rife in the UK and abroad but a quick google doesn't show up any that operate in Ireland. There probably are some that I haven't found.

Might be a business area to get into...

There are a dozen of them in Dublin. Real rip-off places - I mean, again I point out they charge 1200% interest.

They call pawn shops 'cash converters' in Ireland.

Those places are on par with selling your gold teeth to one of those "we buy gold" places.
Beware, don't if you don't have to, speak to your bank first, ask friends and family, but just don't do it to yourself.
I'd try selling stuff at a carboot sale or get a job delivering pizzas before going to what is nothing more than a publicly sanctioned loan shark.

Looks like those cash-for-gold places are going to have some problems, now that the Chinese have invented fake gold which can pass most all of the known tests they use at the shops.

I wonder how much of the fake stuff has already arrived in Ireland and has been sold to the shops here?

Only thing with provident is they come to your house for the payments. Borrowed 300e for car repairs over 4 weeks and I have to say I didn't like the fact that they'd be knocking on your door for money every week. Bit embarasing to be honest. Won't borrow from them again.

I borrow from the credit union now, much better and easier to deal with than the banks.

It depends on how long you'll take to pay it back. You can use their calculator here http://www.providentpersonalcredit.ie/?ref=GO_AT&st=IE_provident&utm_source=google&utm_medium=ppc&utm_term=provident&utm_campaign=brand

It appears you have to agree to at least a 26 week interest period. I would assume you could agree to pay off the loan sooner but will be fixed to that total. It's not a very bad deal but I would knock at every other door first.

Much better deal with Kilrush Credit Union (even with the standard loan)!

€8.24 interest on €300 loan repaid over 26 weeks!

Credit unions wouldn't just lend you the money though would they, don't you have to save with them first?

When I got my car loan, they only needed to have a minimum deposit in for 1 month & I was a new member!

When was this though? I mean there was a time when all you needed was a wink and a smile and a credit institution would dole over the cash.

Besides the OP needs the dosh sooner rather than later. A month defeats the purpose.

My understanding was that you had to be a member for a certain time and could only borrow a certain multiple of your savings?

Me too. According to another poster it was a month.

Anyone know where I can get a loan for €1500-2000?
Not with any bank long enough, but have a full time job and no bad credit rating, it just I need a car and well I tried with Bank Of Ireland and they refused because I not with them long enough (3months) and they not giving loans easy.

I think the banking forum would be a better fit for you question rather than a regional 1

It was easier to get a mortgage 5 years ago than it is to get a car loan now....best bet is credit union I'd say
