Hammond is the Weak link IMO His parts seem more and more contrived as the series progresses.

Actually I was watchin that Comic Relief thing where they mucked up Steve Redgraves Yard, Clarkson is obviously Mental, so when he suggests something insane we know what to expect, Hammond was painfully obviously trying to set up each 'Gag'the one that sticks in memory is driving the Bobcat into a hole, he waas so bad at it that it could be seen that He wanted to drive in the hole but took five minutes to learn enough about the machine to árse it up

wow i'm surprised by how badly Hammond is doing I'd have thought he'd have beaten may into second place, but i'm even more surprised that clarkson isn't in top spot!

I'm not surprised in the least, I've never actually met a Hammond fan.

Lots of housewives seem to like Hammond!

Has to be May for me. He makes me laugh more than the other two but I like the three of them.

He also has the worst fashion sense on television.

    He does not

I don't like Hammond any more, he tries to hard, makes everything look rehearsed to death and fake (which it may well be, but he makes it obvious) but on the other hand, I think if you were to remove him and throw another presenter in there, it just wouldnt work as well.

He makes the other two look much funnier, wittier, etc.

Clarkson - Loves the sound of his own voice and is absolutely s**te when it comes to doing anything manual. E.g the programme where he has to ask Hammond & May how to put a chip pan fire out when he was cooking in the caravan (the caravan ended up burnt out) or his "input" of the assembly of the Kit Car-need I say more .....

Hammond - Eye candy for the ladies, myself included.;)

May - He may have a dodgy sense of fashion but he gets points for being brother of Brian May. (Explains the hair !) Intellectual, interesting, and comes across as sound :)

Something that wouldn't bother him in the slightest, which is what I like about him. Although the show is primarily staged/rehearsed, May & Clarkson very rarely make it seem so bad. Hommond is robotic at times.

I think he'd be the first to admit that, despite throwing the "I'm a doctor of engineering...twice!" line around to p1ss people off :D We've heard him measuring things in hammers (It's four and a half hammers wide", and various other calamities (building the kit car) - I like Clarkson al lot for his outspoken attitude, saying what he feels, and generally giving two fingers to the PC/Nanny state bull that seems more prevalent every day.

I like May because he's intelligent, witty, funny, & as I said before, makes the scripting minimally painful.

Hammond? Can't hide any scripting, isn't funny in most cases (the insect in the car/Bolivia was hillarious however), I dunno, it's hard to puy my finger on really. I actually remember liking him a lot more BEFORE that horrific accident, maybe it just conincided with an increase in staged events however.

And May being Brian May's brother?

    what?

Also he has a fantastic fashion sense, his shirts are awesome

James and Brian are not brothers or even half brothers I'm sure we'd have heard that years ago if it were true.

Anyway James May is the one, he is ingredient X the one that actually makes TG work. Hammond could dissapear tomorrow and the programme wouldn't be unbalanced.

I hate the way the camera has to do close up shot of hammonds eyes at least once every episode...

May's irritation at Clarkson's feckless floundering is palpable during those tasks - Hammond is usually nearby trying not to laugh - very funny. The three of them combined make for excellent viewing.

James and Brian May are half brothers see link !

Agreed re the irritaion, it's brilliant :D

Regards the article, it mentions they both have the same father. Then later mentions James Mays' father is very much alive, then says Brain Mays' father is dead

Clarkson is the heart of Top Gear, hammond is just there as a straight man for the other two, I was unsure about James for the first season but he's started to establish himself as the shows have gone by - horray for captain slow

    And so the mystery deepens!

The hair and the yuppie accent had me convinced ?

if that's all you need, I must be their long lost sister...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭ashyle

They aren't related, aside from having the same last name.

James is my favourite, followed by Clarkson. Hammond acts silly on the show now but he's a good presenter aside from that (see Engineering Connections or Hammond Meets Moss)

is jame's irritation at clarksons's mess ups in some of those tasks real or is it all for show?

It's easy to tell when it's real or not, it varies. To be honest I've stopped asking myself whats real or not in the show as it began to ruin the fun. It's more enjoyable when you just sit back & zone out, enjoy it for what it is :)

The exec producer has said on his blog that James especially hates the forced characters they all have to play so most of the frustration you see is real.

Maybe he should address the issue then.

I'm going to go against the general grain here and give Hammond a bit of support! Even if only for getting in that dragster, which definitely took a lot of stones!

It's only his other shows like Blast Lab and stuff that annoy me. Even as the standards of children's programmes go these days (which are WAY worse than when I was younger), it's fairly pathetic! :D

Jeremy Clarkson is my favourite presenter. He's funny and I enjoy his reviews.

I like May, seems the most sincere of the lot.

Hammond, used to like him. Now he just imitates Jeremy. Tries too hard for laughs, just end up awkward silences and pity laughs in the studio.

I love James May - he definitely appeals to my inner geek - and as for the Captain Slow thing - has he not driven the Bugatti and the Bugatti S/S for the show - hardly a captain slow! (captain lost by the sounds of it).

Hammond's personality seems to have receeded (sp?) into the scripting - remember the days of 'I AM A DRIVING GOD'! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hskBGTk38lA

Clarkson annoys me, but that's part of the show I guess - but why is it (on SIARPC) 'my guest tonight...........' blah blah blah - it's a team show!

Conclusion - my vote's for May

    PS - awful shirts!:D

Hammond and Clarkson are the ones that I like - May irritates me.

I always liked Hammond in the past - yes he is making the most of his popularity but he is an inspiration to head trauma sufferers and seems to be a genuine nice guy.

Clarkson is hillarious, very quick witted and funny - I love reading his books.
