Lost The Complete Collection on DVD/Blu-Ray

A lot of non US fans are now pretty pissed off because the Complete Collection that has been advertised - which can be seen here:
    http://darkufo.blogspot.com/2010/08/lost-complete-collection-video-teaser.html

Which comes with collectible Senet game, maps of the island, blacklight, ankh and a few other goodies, is only being sold in the US. Non-US fans simply get a set of the discs, nothing extra at all.

I for one am extremely annoyed. I already have seasons 1-5 on DVD and I could have justified spending €250 on the Complete Collection, because:

    1. For the extra goodies
    2. Because I'm on the dvd
    3. All the discs together in a neat set

But I think it's awful that non-US fans are getting the short end of the stick. Not saying it may do any good but there's a Facebook group set up which is campaigning for an international release.

Is your DVD player multi-region? If so, just order the region 1 set online. All my Lost DVDs are R1. The finale isn't split in half on R1 and there's no stupid PAL speed-up, which can be very noticeable if you are used to watching the US broadcast. It'll probably work out cheaper as well.

I have a DVD player but I doubt it's multi-region. Also, I'd be using the dvds not only on my dvd player, but others as well as my laptop.

It works out as €118 inc P+P from Amazon.com including the extras, compared to just the boxset which is €250 to buy in-store.

Don't really see why this is funny...
Exclusive Features: Exploring the global phenomenon that is Lost, bonus showcases events ranging from the series cast and crew at San Diego's famed Comic-Con convention to international voice recordings, local events and even fan parties, all of which helped make the show into a worldwide favorite.

I filmed footage of myself and two of my friends speaking about Lost and our footage is being used.

Balls. I was going to get the super duper mega bonus pack on Blu-ray. As with DVD players, Blu-ray discs can be region encoded, but they do not necessarily have to be so, it depends on the studio in question. USA region code is A/1, Europe is B/2. I'm thinking that I could get away with getting the US Blu-ray version if it isn't encoded, so that it'd still play here, but I'm having trouble finding technical specs of the collection itself. Does anyone know if the US edition is region-coded?

tl;dr -> is the US Blu-ray collectors edition region coded?

I don't think it's known yet. Some of the season sets were locked.

Just to let you know a friend of mine contacted Disney. The set with all the extras will be released as a limited edition in the UK in October.

So, the complete box set came out today in the US.

On Amazon.com, the Region 1 DVD set is $148 (around €118). The Blu-ray is $195 (just over €150).

On Amazon.co.uk the deluxe Blu-ray is working out at €174 and not out until October 11. God only knows what it'll be in shops.

Does anyone know if the Blu-ray is region coded now that it's released? Haven't been able to find out. I think at this stage I'll go for the DVDs if they are.

Currently involved in a never-ending thread of questions and answers with Amazon.

Have been receiving conflicting answers from Amazon.com regarding the Blu-Ray box set being region-free or not. The DVD boxset is Region 1.

With Amazon.co.uk, the set released on October 11th will not have all the extras as far as they are aware, only the Senet board game.

    My head = Wrecked!

the american release boxset is nice, but the DVDs/Blurays are slotted into a carded booklet, i have the mummy collection and its done like that and the card scratches the DVDs, but id still get it for the rest of the goodies

Season 6 Blu-ray on its own is region free.

I haven't found any confirmation yet about the complete set either. However, it is possible they are using the same discs as in previous sets, which would mean that season 3 and 4 are locked. For that reason, don't believe any claim that they are region free unless they have tested ALL the seasons.

I ordered the R1 Blu Ray set. I don't have a Blu ray player or anything but I think the full US set will be an essential purchase, glad I didn't cave and buy the box sets before hand.

Region Free Blue Ray players can be bought cheap enough on Amazon.co.uk so that will sort any future problems for me and anyone else wondering what to do.

Review up here lads of the Blu-Ray set http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Lost-The-Complete-Collection-Blu-ray/9557/#Review

This is the Region A set, which will be region locked (unless you have a chipped player :) ) I think I'll go for the US version.

Looking at the UK Collector's edition linked above, and reading the review of the US version, it looks like they've gotten a much superior set. Very torn on this one; I'm going to have a look for some cheap multi-region Blu-ray players (do they exist?), though at this stage I can see myself ordering the DVDs.

The complete series Blu-ray is all regions according to regionfreemovies.com. But I'd still be sceptical whether this is true of all the discs.

And the "zone free" Blu-ray players on Amazon don't look cheap to me.

The complete series Blu-ray is all regions according to regionfreemovies.com. But I'd still be sceptical whether this is true of all the discs.

I'm sceptical too. I read another review here which says it's Region A. Then in the comments section there is some debate, and the reviewer states that the discs used are those used from the individual releases of each season; i.e. some seasons are region-free, while others (namely 3 & 4) are region locked.

Edit: From a thread on Amazon.com:
Im from the UK, just received the set this morning and despite what all the websites are saying, season 3 and 4 are still very much locked to region A, and will not play on my PS3 (nor does it work on the other blu-ray player we have in our house), all other season appear to be fine however (Ive only had chance to try the 1st disc from each but you would assume if disc 1 is working then so are the others).

So I guess that's that. Very frustrating that nobody could get a straight answer from official sources. I mean that thread had copied emails from Amazon representatives that totally contradicted one another, one rep saying it was region free and others saying it was region locked.

So I guess it's a toss up between settling for US DVDs, or waiting for the inferior UK Blu-ray release (the cost of region free players are pretty prohibitive from what I've seen). Really pissed off about the whole affair. Six seasons of fandom and we get a raw deal because of where we live.

I think HMV might be selling a cheap brand Blu-Ray player that can switch between regions using a handset hack or so it says on the thread, well they are certainly available in UK HMV's http://www.avforums.com/forums/blu-ray-players/1256262-foehn-hirsch-bd2101-owners-thread-pt-2-a-8.html
