UK contracting..?

Got a stable job (God-send I guess) but finding like a heck of alot of people, I have NO money anymore. Overdrawn the overdraft every month now, no chance of a payrise in the future (at least a year), kids going to college, school books etc etc.. Nothing on the horizon to make anything better.

Question is, is it worth trying to get back into IT (Development) contracting, I have a base in the UK I can use that is close to London (bang in the South East). Skillset is allbut there (c#, SQL Server ++) considerable experience....

I know, permie job versus contracting (even assuming I get interviews), harder life, weekly / bi weekly commute... done this all before 8 years back but necessity being the mother of invention (i.e. no cash!) .....

Would you go ? Should I go (or attempt to?).

    Advice very much appreciated..
