Hey all, I don't post here much, but I was out playing yesterday and needed some help clarifying a situation.

Myself and my uncle were out playing in Leopardstown yesterday. The round was going really slow as there was a group of 3 guys holding everyone up and so we were getting increasingly frustrated at having to wait so long in between shots and even more so with the people ahead of us not being let through.

Now we were tight for time and by the time we got to the 13th we were running out of it so decided to skip 2 holes, to bypass the people that were holding everyone up. So we walked the 50 yards or so to the 15th tee.

So at this point we were in front of the 3 slow players and they weren't too happy about it as we were teeing off just as they were getting to the tee box. So My uncle went over and said sorry but we've been held up all day and are running out of time. To which they said "doesn't mean you can cut in front of us".

Now I can see why they were angry but their attitude kind of annoyed me as they weren't letting anyone ahead of them for the whole day, even though they were much slower with lost balls, etc. Usually if I know I've lost a ball, I'll look for it for a while but won't spend too long as I don't mind too much and don't want to waste time.

I just want to know what anyone thinks about these lads being annoyed, or am I right to be annoyed at them for being held up all day?

    Cheers.

Whatever about slow play it was 100% wrong of you to cut in in front of them.

Did anyone actually approach them about their slow play or request to be let through?

Alright fair enough! Em, I dunno cause they were 2 groups ahead but everyone seemed annoyed alright.

not sure i agree with you there
if i was the OP i'd have done the same thing
given the course we're talking about that should be perfectly acceptable
now having said that, i wouldn't do it on my own course unless of course there was a sufficient gap and i could slot in without any disruptions
then again, we never have 3/4 idiots wandering around holding up the place for very long

Id have drove over them when they were looking for a ball.. an filled them with a plethera of obsenities on my way past! Not really but thats what i felt like doing when a group a Germans wouldn't let me through last week. It's just down rite ignorance in my opinion!

I agree with what op did but I wouldn't have been so polite about it!

once ur ball goes off the beaten track you should wave the group behind through within a max of 2 mins searching
its just common sense and manners ffs

also, if the group behind keep meeting you at the teebox and theres a gap between you and the next group, then allow the group behind through

also, its a no-brainer re a two-ball waiting behind you if ur group has 3+ players

Unfortunately OP what you did was just as wrong as what they were doing. You now held them up making matters worse for everyone behind. If you are going to skip holes then ensure you are not getting in anyones way.

Technically they are obligated to let you through, its not up to them...can be difficult to make that happen though.

if the group on front are slow i'm not shy about telling them they've lost a hole,in my local course on a few occasions i've rang the course and the ranger comes out and tells them off and lets us through
i was told one time by a snooty so and so that my 2 ball had no right to play through as we wern't a 3 ball or more, ever hear of that one ?

You hear some funny ones alright.
I was in a three-ball one day playing behind a very slow fourball who wouldn't let us through.
When I approached them afterwards one of them said that we didn't have any right to go through as we were in an odd numbered group (3). Only even numbered groups have rights on a golf course. :D

it used to be that a 1 ball didn't have the same right. Now it is the fastest through.

Why would you want to play with anyone stuck behind you?

Thanks for all the replies! I was uneasy with doing it, but I'd be conscious if people were pushing up behind us. I think either situation can end up putting you off your game.
