I've been advised to start looking in september when the autumn winter stuff comes out. Im size 20 and I want too look good, but is it possible to do that??? I wasnt always this size and it's the first 'Good occasion' Ive had to go too since balloning and I DONT KNOW WHERE TO START!!!!!:confused: Any help extremely gratefully appreciated. Monsoon do lovely stuff in the 'plus' sizes, although a lot of guests might get their dresses there... i'd steer clear of evans', their stuff is INSANELY priced and not flattering to ANYONE.

I wouldn't wait if i were you, you never know when you'll spot something nice, and if you do, I say go for it! Nothing to stop you getting something now, then looking in sept/oct at the new season accessories or ways to personalise it a la gok...

First of all, of course it's possible to look good at size 20. It's possible to look good at any size! The most important thing to do is to wear something you feel comfortable in and that makes you feel fantastic because if you feel good about how you look I can guarantee that will show. :)

Secondly, don't bother with Penneys OP. They rarely have size 20 and I know their 18s can be very small fitting.

I'd highly recommend Debenhams. They have a fantastic range of dresses in a great range of sizes. The John Rocha section in particular has very well made clothes that can be a very flattering fit. :)

As was already mentioned, Monsoon also have a good range of sizes and very helpful staff but they can be expensive though.

New Look, Next and Dorothy Perkins all have a great range of sizes too but their stuff does tend to be more casual. Still, keep an eye out because you never know. You might find something there. :)

As you've plenty of time until the wedding you could try looking online too. Littlewoods have a fantastic range of occasion dresses in size 20 and you've plenty of time to send something back if it's not a perfect fit. :)

Try Debenhams, Monsoon (try on in the shop and buy online -way cheaper). Ebay have nice things but you can't try on first. Try buying something fairly simple and they dress it up with lovely shoes, wrap, jewellery etc.

I know Debenhams do a Personal Shopper option for free and it might be worth having a go at that if you are unsure about what suits you etc.You don't have to buy but it is handy to have someone else pick for you. I know people who have done this and got things that looked wonderful on them that they would never have picked.

    Best of luck:)

Thank for the replies guys!!! Ye really made me feel better and a bit more confident that I will actually be able to look decent for this!! One question? Is Monsoon stuff not a bit over the top for the wedding? What do people wear to family weddings?? Ive never had a close family member wedding before, so Im at a loss here!! they have gorgeous stuff tho, so i'd be quite happy to shop there :) Penneys never seems to have anything in a size that fits me, but Ill keep an eye out anyway. ;)
The personnel shopper idea seems to be a good idea, Ive a work colleague that was just telling me about it so will be checking that out soon!

Thanks again for the help and advice girls!!

Think about a personal shopper or if you can't get one of those get a friend with a good eye to help you and whose opinion you trust. I am a 'plus' size as well and normally try to get someone come shopping with me cos when shopping for an occasion I hate to do it on my own, I never trust my own opinion.

It's funny, but Im the opposite, I HATE shopping with others :( think Ill have to change now though. I have a couple of good friends who are honest, but nice honest, if ya know what I mean :) think I might rope them in!

Yeah i no what you mean I would never go shopping with someone who's just negative but I'm lucky I have a few friends/family members that are great to shop with. My sis in law is great to shop with cos she has such a good eye. She's often picked out things for me that I would never pick for myself and they are fab on then, so rem to go with an open mind, eventho you may not have worn a certain style before it may look good on you. Enjoy urself:D
