I went for a kip last night before work, as a coincidence i checked my balance before i did. I had €10+ left on the phone. I tried to make a call at about 12 last night and had 0 credit. Ive just checked online and this is in my call history, can someone explain this? Do i have any comeback on this at all?

It appears they tot up your days internet/data usage and charge you at mid night.

what phone do you have? is there any applications checking the internet all the time? have you asked meteor about this charge?

Ive an iphone 3gs. They didnt charge at midnight and havent done all month, the credit was there when i fell asleep, the next time i used the phone it was gone. I know it wasnt used between those times.
Ive emailed their customer "service", not expecting a response anytime soon.

Oh and the 3G was turned off, there was nothing downloading or anything.

Any chance your phone could have accidently gone onto the internet at some stage? Has happened to me in the past!

Not unless a spider or a fly managed to unlock it and turn on the 3g :D

Could a house mate have used it while you were sleeping or anything?

12mb is a good bit of data for a phone in a very short time

on the iphone doesn't turning 3g off only disable 3g? your phone will continue to connect via edge / gprs if available?

do you have any push email active or anything?

i'm moving your query to the apple media devices forum. while not strictly an iphone query maybe it appears the costs have something to do with the iphone anyway.

    thanks

Its a meteor phantom charge, it should be only billed 99cent in anycase when its inside 50MB, 12406 KB is only about 12MB if im not mistaken.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 10,259 ✭✭✭✭Melion

I have no push alerts or anything enabled on the phone for just this reason.

this, you should automatically only be charged 99c here. This is how you argue it with meteor. ring them and ask.

Email is never great for this sort of thing, either calling, or a hand written letter (registered if need be) seems to get better results. I would be interested to hear their response though

what;s your APN, i ask this because sometimes carriers require you to use certain APN's to avail of the cheaper data rates, if not you'll get screwed over.

whats the apn supposed to be? i have data.meteor.ie and username my password meteor, but its not working. anybody on meteor could post what their network setting is?

edit: nvm, its data.mymeteor.ie no user/pass needed. missed the my in mymeteor.

dont email them, it takes 2 days for a responce to come back.
ring customer care and they should sort it there and then.

Had you used a lot of data earlier in the day? Maybe you used your 50mb daily allowance and went over it, nitting the extra charge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 357 ✭✭brennarr

This happened to me not too long ago. Rang Customer Care and they just told me that I used the Internet over the daily allowance when I didnt. it took my €20 credit. He just fobbed me off and said they would call me back etc. No word since. Dont waste ur time calling them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 372 ✭✭Helium

Happened me once and never again.

Contrary too what some people say it's very easy to go over your 50 mb daily download allowance for 99cent.
Once you go over this with Meteor it's 2cent a Kilobyte and there's 1200 hundred of them in a MB, doesn't be long using whatever credit you have left.

If you don't use internet a lot, do like me and use a fake APN so it cannot connect either intentionally or by accident.
( fake.data.mymeteor.ie and remove fake when you want internet)

My friend had the exact same problem recently.

On a lunch break in work the phone suddenly said updating on the front of it for about 5 minutes and seemed to be connected to the internet updating software (I don't use Android so I don't know if this is normal?).

    Could this possibly be it?

After 2 emails between myself and Meteor. I was refunded my credit on Friday, delighted because i thought it was pointless even trying.
