What are the main causes for this light to come onto the dashboard?

Im driving a Landrover defender in work and during driving this will iluminate and the vehicle will stall and seem to start up again -

as far as i know it is a general warning light and could be caused by a number of reasons.

As stated it can be caused by a number of things.

Its called a "check engine" light.

Some culprits could be egr valve, maf etc etc.

You will need a diagnostic read to find out what the cause is and get the light cleared when fixed.

Can be caused by something as simple to fix as an Air Filter!

I think if it's constant it's an electrical problem or a problem along the lambda/exhaust/manifold.

If it's flashing I think it's valves or pistons or something or other.

RoverCraft, Slidey and Hiluxman would most likely know exactly what throws the light on.

    Thanks for the help lads.

It was at it again today, but normally when the revs are lower, i drove it to Galway today and there was no problem, yet the minute it was idle in the yard, she started acting the bollox again
