I'm hoping the good people of this form might be able to help. I have a Philips LX3900SA surround sound system. It does the job nicely but I have a query. I'm curious to see what the best way of hooking my sky box up to the system would be.

It has a number a analog input (red & white RCA?) and a mystery "digital input" that looks like a standard RCA jack. I've attached a diagram from the manual. The audio inputs are listed as:

    Audio input:
    - Analog : AUX
    - Digital : 1x cinch
    - SCART (audio from TV)

Should I just go ahead and use the analog jacks or is there a benefit from using the digital?

    Cheers muchly for any advice.

its digital coax for dolby/dts digital sound

the digital in will allow the receiver to process the sound rather than the sky box.
if its a good quality receiver it should do a better job than the digibox.
if you have sky hd you will get surround sound on channels that provide it

if the connector is free, you may as well use it, thats why youve paid extra money for a receiver :)

Your Sky box probably outputs digital audio using a Digital optical socket (TOSlink). You can get a small adapter which converts from digital optical to digital coaxial from the likes of Amazon for about a tenner.

Thanks for that. I had come to the same conclusion after a bit of reading alright.

    Appreciate the help.
