Applied Maths!

So there I was, walking to the Kingfisher feeling nice and relaxed and calm about sitting my 1st year applied maths repeat exam, had a bit of a chat with the lads before going in to the hall, and then we went in and waited.

    And waited.

I noticed that we had no exam booklets on our desks but didn't think it was anything too major, perhaps they forgot, so I assumed.

After the people sitting other exams had started their exams, one of the invigilators came down and told us that they don't know where our papers are, but to sit tight while they go find them. Her and another one come a minute later and tell us that the exam has been cancelled and please leave the exam hall quietly and go to the maths department to find out what was wrong.

After much wandering around between the Áras de Brún building and the Kingfisher, we learned from the lecturer that the examinations office had screwed up and that the exam's re-scheduled for Friday the 13th (not a good day if you're superstitious).

He didn't tell us how exactly they messed up, but I heard 3 lads this morning at 9:30 had applied maths on their exam timetables, and sat their exams at the time it said on their timetables without incident. I think someone in the exams office forgot to double-check that all the students were sitting the exam at the same time today.

Luckily I don't really have any travel plans, but some were flying out to the US and other places almost right after today's exams - so much for their holidays. The fact that we only found out in the exam hall while waiting for our paper, that the exam was cancelled is just not good enough, nor did the exams office notify the maths department about their messing-up of the timetables.

That's completely ridiculous. What are people supposed to do who had holidays booked? Not acceptable.
