I am a complete amateur. A couple of mates play and I would like to join in, but am just wondering, how many clubs, realistically, would I need? I don't like going the borrowing route, I'd prefer to have my own.

Sorry if I seem stupid, but a set would be what exactly? Driver, putter, wood, and about 6-8 irons??
Would you need all that at the start?

A full set would normally be 14 clubs...
Something like...Driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, hybrid, Irons (4,5,6,7,8,9), Wedges (Pitching, Sand, Lob), Putter.

If you want the minimum number of clubs starting off you could probably do fine with half that...
Driver (might score better without one but everyone wants to hit one), 4 or 5 wood, Hybrid, Irons (5,7,9), Wedge, Putter.

You could start with irons like these and pick up the rest 2nd hand off adverts or ebay...http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-MD-GOLF-TOUR-STEEL-HALF-SET-4-6-8-IRONS-120-/400142202336?cmd=ViewItem&hash=item5d2a5575e0

As I have stated on other posts to people who are starting off! Dont go wasting money buying clubs, because in a year when you have improved you will want to upgrade to a better set and will realise tht you wasted money on a starter set at the start. I should know "its what i done"eek.gif hence why i have a perfectly good set of starter clubs (Bag included)sitting in the shed.

    like theses http://www.mcguirksgolf.com/spalding...pac0102pd.html

If you can collect them in Dub you can have them for €20

    :D

+1 with advice. Take the clubs, get out there to Par 3, Range and a public course a few times and you'll know soon enough whether you like it or not.

Stick with the clubs until you're good enough to earn yourself new ones.

They are 100% genuine spalding clubs (unless McGuirks in blanch has started selling fakes:eek:)

Tbh I am only trying to help someone who is starting out in the game and there is no point in letting clubs that are in great nick go to waste in my shed. I somtimes think it be less hassel to just sell them for €100 than it is to give them away:confused:

    Hi BigAl,
if nobody has taken them yet, I am interested for €20 and can collect in Dublin next
week when I am up that direction. can you PM me if they are still available. I have a
borrowed set at the moment and just joined a club so need something of my own so I
can work on my 70 handicap (at least it would be if I had one).

    Thanks,
    Takca
