I was 22 when I got my Integra and had the same problem. I was with Quinn and when I told them I wasn't renewing my policy because I was getting a car they refused to quote, they quoted! But for a Supra I reckon you'll be paying through the nose.

That coupled with the tax bill...I just couldn't handle that

Your going to find it very difficult and expensive but it should be dooable.

Search the modified car section for insurance there are at least 4-5 treads with recomendations on insurers.

Youll have some job getting a quote; most if not all insurance companies are going to see your age and the car and run a mile.

Find a broker in your area who deals with Setanta Insurance and give them a try. I got a very good quote for my ITR with them when pretty much noone else would quote me.

Also try ARB Insurance. Chances are theyll give you a quote of some description; whether its within the realms of reality now is a different matter.

Most young lads you see driving Supras will have bent the rules to get some kind of insurnace on them...

Wait 'til renewal. Renew on your current car. One month later walk in to their local branch with logbook of Supra in your name and say you've to swap cover. By law they have to swap your cover. However, they'll still put the excess on your premium, and, can charge you as much as they like.

Then, good luck renewing next year without being financially raped....

I had an Altezza insured with Quinn and they refused to quote me on a 1999 Supra TT until i told them i'd already bought it and it was a permanent transfer of the policy. I was 24 at the time and had almost 4 years NCB and they wanted about ~€200 extra for the remaining 3 months on my policy.

Was expecting a laughable quote at renewal but it was €1,400 for the Altezza  and €1600 for the Supra :D TPFT

That was nearly 2 years ago, bottom line with quinn is that you never know, its a lottery when you deal with them

It's not, you just have to know how to deal with them.

firstly, grow a pair of balls and buy the turbo model. :P

secondly, buy it, then ring them and tell them its sitting on your driveway.

they might say "aw we cant insure that"
"is there anything you can do, can i talk to your supervisor?"
"hang on, ill ask my supervisor" ....5 seconds pass
"thats ok, we can insure you"

Try Arachas. They're a broker and got me a good deal on insurance on my DC5.

Had serious trouble trying to get a quote at 24 (was 25 two months later), so I went as a named on my dad's policy for the 2 months.

They sorted me a policy with Allianz for 1300 fully comp with No claims protection, windscreen cover & breakdown assistance.
Not bad for 2 years NCB and full licence 1 year 9 months :D

Ive never been a fan of this ploy, for the simple reason that it backfires and they come back with a quote thats astronomical (as they are quite likely to do) then you are stuck with a Supra parked in your drive thats about as useful to you as a bag of mosspeat...

Completely agree. Before I changed I told them I didn't want to renew, then I got the quote. So I knew how much it was going to cost me before I bought the car

    Wait a while dude.

I have to say having had a loan of a twin turbo one for a few days, I just wouldn't bother with a Supra. Just not worth the running costs.

Something like a silvia ( or bless us even a DC2 ) is a lot more fun to drive, and a LOT easier on the pocket.

With quinn you can get insured in your own car and get third party on someone else's car. So get insured in a 1 litre **** heap and then buy a supra and put it in one of your parents name. Then you can drive it on third party as its not yours but quinn have agreed you can drive another persons car.

Dont know if it will work but a friend of mine is trying at the moment with an RX7

True you can do this but if the car gets robbed or spontaneously bursts in to flames you've nothing to come back on.

You can try it alright but like has been said by Bonito there, it's literally not covered in any way, shape or form.
It's really not worth it..that tp extension is handy for taking a car for a spin that's not yours or helping someone out but apart from that..

Apart from the high insurance the cost of road tax will also be really high.
If you've got your heart set on a Supra then go for it I guess,
but you could get a 2.0L car for similar money that would be quicker than an N/A Supra and cheaper to tax and insure.

If it were me I'd wait a year or two, let my no claims build up and then get a TT.

Before you buy you should register on http://www.mkivsupra.net
You'll get lots of advice there and it's a good place to buy a Supra from as the history of the car will be well known.
